This is the official video for the song "Freya" by Sword. One of my favourite songs, and a very well directed video, I might add. Play it LOUD!!!
For more info on the band (especially on tours), check out www.swordofdoom....
And for a great blog-like account of the band's touring with Metallica, check: www.austinchron...
P.S.1: Sorry about the poor video & audio quality - I don't have a better one...
P.S.2: If ads appear, I have virtually NOTHING to do with them. Install AdBlockPlus and have a nice day.

The most under-rated band EVER. I bet Age of Winters is played in Valhalla on a 24/7 loop.

I've seen them open for Clutch and they were very good and tight. And yes, we can say Metallica have been around for a few years to know a good band when they see one.

Oh yes! I am really happy for them... seeing them haul their gear on a minivan by themselves (without any roadies or help from the venue staff) and droving off to the next gig is a very rock'n'roll scene, but they deserve to be in the big league... :-)

It's Sony/BMG. Kemado is the "independent" label of the band who has a distribution agreement with Sony/BMG's RED distribution. I've talked to the band before about video tapping their set. Told them I'd eventually post on youtube and get them a copy. They were cool about it. What smaller band would not want their performances broadcast across the globe in a relatively easy searchable format?

I listened to the song (you can find it on KZbin) and I think you've got a point... As for comparing Kiss to Sword, I would only compare them in terms of how successful they were: Kiss, like it or not, were one of the most successful bands in music history, and they were also very influential, too. As for saying who's best, it's very subjective.

Ι completely agree. Although a label can remain independent even if they have an agreement with a multinational for distribution. I've seen it happen, they don't lose any "independent" credit. Not always, anyway. By the way, I just mentioned Sony BMG by chance!!!

@DoomMetalSludge I don't know if they are mainstream or not, but it seems just like yesterday that I remember seeing them load their own gear right in front of me onto their tiny van and leave the venue for their next gig. They didn't become known overnight, you know... this probably happened right after their support slot for Metallica, which was pretty simple (Ulrich heard a few of their songs, liked them and asked them to join).

Well, they are a bit monotonous but nevertheless addictive... and what you said makes sense and would be very interesting to see them follow this path, especially if they introduce some variation in their music - don't forget that they are almost (ALMOST) in the beginning of their existence as a band (although its members have previous experience).

@steaminghotnoodles Yes, it does, to be honest... a few people mentioned this in previous comments, too. It has more of a stoner attitude though, a bit less vintage and a bit more modern. Or not... In any case, I know for a fact that they are really nice people and they are not trying to copy Sabbath.

Yes, the series of comments got mixed up. If you click on "See all comments", you'll see he was talking about Behemoth. And by the way, I would never label Sword as metal, not in a million years, and I am sure the band also feels the same way. "Stoner rock" is much more appropriate.

I find these stories very interesting, and although I am a big epic fantasy fan (and a D&D player for 11 years), I haven't read any books on the subject. My little sister has, though... Any specific recommendations? Not in a "documentary" style but in a "story" style like a novel...?

As far as Kiss or any other band, everybody is entitled to their own subjective opinion, but that won't really change the place of an artist in history. Also, bear in mind that very frequently it has little to do with raw talent.

In the end, it just goes to show that music will be called whatever we want to call it. If I say that the Sword are playing "mythological-biker-groovy-blues-metal", then yes, they will be playing that. I'm so sick and tired of shitty labels on anything around us.

The reason we're getting all these labels in metal music is because of all the genre bending and cross contamination you get with the overall genre called metal. Metal musicians are some of the best musicians in the world and so they have broad influences, they like to incorperate the different sounds and styles they have experinced. By the way, when I say "Metal" I mean all forms of extreme rock. The reason you get something called "blackend death" is because you get a mixture of...

Well, I certainly wouldn't call it that, because you must grab every chance you get to know new bands, and Sword are worth knowing. This video game might introduce new music to kids (proper music, not brainless super hits). On the other hand, bands that are more "advanced" in their style (Tool, Isis etc) are never going to be featured in this, but it is very likely that a listener will come across them.

Freya was far more than the simple Goddess of Love. Gods and goddesses in pagan mythology were not simply packaged into neat, simple categories. They were complex IDEAS and carried with them huge packages, just like certain ideas when we think of them carry lots of connotation. Freya was also the WAR GODDESS, and the goddess of fertility and death, magic and prophecy. Think about it when we say, "All is fair in love and war"... I named my daughter after her, the most beautiful of goddesses.

Get their cd then... you'll be also doing them a favour since they are not mega-rich like some very well-known bands... It's not even 2 years ago that I remember seeing them carry their own gear in the back of their tour van and drive onto their next gig city... (the Metallica tour came later than that)

I don't even know why anyone would compare The Sword and Machine Head. You might as well throw Kansas and Cannibal Corpse into the mix as well, they're totally different.
