"'The Symphonic Gershwin' is a jewel in every sense of the word. Students should be exposed to the great American music of the past and George Gershwin's music certainly deserves hearing" - SBO Magazine.
Mix one part world-class composer and one part super-skilled arranger and the result is a perfect medley of all-time Gershwin favorites. Our musician's musician, Warren Barker, blends his tasteful takes on "An American in Paris," "Cuban Overture," and "Rhapsody in Blue" into a mesmerizing presentation for your concert audiences. This runs at full throttle, from beginning to end! - Source: www.sheetmusicp...
The Symphonic Wind Orchestra (SWO) is where dedicated young players become the brass, woodwind and percussion musicians that every conductor will ask for in his/her orchestra. The music spans from "baroque to rock" and instruments range across orchestral woodwind, brass and percussion, plus saxophones and euphonium.
SWO players enjoy the camaraderie of other musicians sharing the excitement of playing in excellent concert locations in Sydney and beyond.
Russell Hammond, the conductor, brings more than forty years experience with wind orchestras to Sydney Youth Orchestras, as a leader of the Australian band movement, and former conductor of the Australian Wind Orchestra.
This performance is part of the Sydney Youth Orchestra SYO Summer Family Concert at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music on December 3, 2011.
