Personally I thought alpine should have been like a $35 deluxe figure (with like a 60th anniversary type load out) he should have came with a climbing pack! Some binos , and a bunch of climbing and maybe camping gear 🤷🏻 ….i thought we were going to get some new and interesting accessories with him and was a little disappointed with his load out and the amount of reuse in it

Happy Thanksgiving Crow! Solid review. Alpine is more well known from the 80's cartoon than the comic book. And for being paired up with Bazooka. They were kinda the comedy relief duo. Based on his file card Alpine was never a fully developed character at his creation. He was also the 4th black character introduced to the Joe line. I also think they killed Alpine off or he retired in the comics. Alpines voice actor portrayed pine as being fun loving and slightly eccentric. Which kinda fits because there are not many known black moutaineer soldiers. Not many black people are fond of heights either. If Alpine and Bazooka didn't have prominent roles in the cartoon. I don't think as characters and figures they wouldn't have any place or popularity among Gi Joe fans. I agree they nerfed Alpines kit and either misunderstood or changed his role/soldier specialty. They gave him a rock climbing kit. But he is not a rock climber he is a mountaineer. He hiked and scaled mountains in the cartoon. He shouldve came with a back pack. Mountain climbers stored a small tent, extra line for climbing, food rations, emergency medical supplies, ect in their back packs. And lots of grappling line. Alpine on the cartoon did reconnaissance as well as being a regular soldier. I'm sure Alpine as a person would be offended if his military specialty was classified as just a rock climber. As a mountaineer( not a rock climber)he needs the padding to cover the laces. Because laces get caught on jagged rocks or ledges. He doesnt need the resin kit because he wears specialized gloves. Designed to protect his hands, wrists, and forearms from injury and protect him from him from the elements. In the cartoon Alpine was put in situations where he was in snowy mountain environments. I would've gave him skis or snow shoes as well as oxygen tank and mask to modernize his kit. He is called Alpine. And back then when you thought of anything relating to alpine. You thought of mountains and skiing. But if they gave him skiis it would defeat the purpose of having Iceberg. Another Gi Joe black character who was a snow trooper. I feel with 80's figures Hasbro was more concerned with making relateable characters, representation, and designing them to look cool. Based on stereotypes/ character archetypes of that time. Hasbro has no military advisors when it comes to kit. I recall a late 80's or early 90's action movie starring Sylvester Stallone where he was a mountain Park rescue Ranger/mountaineer. Alpines kit and design is pretty similar. So you thinking of Alpine as more of a forest park ranger makes sense. The lack of a back pack and gear leads to confusing. It wasnt until the Joe character/figure Hit & Run that Hasbro designed a more accurate and better kitted mountaineer soldier.

Alpine is a good figure I got mine last week. And stuff like the carabiners and that rope are nice details but because you can't really use them they feel like they're in the way. I am going to add some string to be usable rope for Alpine with a Lego grappling hook.

Been looking forward to Alpine. He looks very "meh" though. They did him dirty with his accessories. Should have mine this week so I guess I'm gon' learn.

I’m sure They didn’t give him a backpack just so they could throw it in with the retro one later🙄 I don’t like there starting to play those games with holding back accessories and putting tattoos on the figures and little silly paint apps just so they can take and add later and essentially sell the same figure twice with minimal effort …..the retro line is mostly just a cash grab either way the exception of a few figures (Duke , scarlet , snake eyes , beach head , cobra commander ) they are the only ones that have really justified a retro release to me so far….oh and gung ho
