I've never thought of football like this, you just couldn't in the 70s, 80s and 90s, and since then Villa have mostly been too poorly managed to be able to spot stuff like this. we conceded more chances than 2 but they were badly missed particularly Orderguard and fodens bad misses /easily saved shots.. but you are right we defending well , the offside also gives us 2 chances to defend so you have the offside and the normal defending to stop a goal where as with a deerper defence you only able to do normal defending , with some balls being cut out by defenders and martinez sweeping it has massively reduced operstitions chances to score against us despite not having as much 'control' as i would like in many games

In what world did Unai outclass Arteta!!! This is a daft truly daft and false narrative…… Arsenal had 66% possession, nearly all the field tilt and attacking pressure a higher xG, more shots on target 9 and 4 big chances. The story of the game is simple, Villa we’re clinical Arsenal were not, but let’s not kid ourselves who were but some margin the better team….. Here are some more stats for you Dave (I love your channel btw)….. 10 - Shots allowed, holding Aston Villa to the second-lowest total of the season and lowest at home this year. 0.7 - Expected goals for Aston Villa, tied for the lowest total of the season 0 - Big chances 15 - Touches in the box, Aston Villa’s lowest total of the season 3 - Dribbles completed, Aston Villa’s lowest total of the season. Yes they outclassed City…why? City were AWFUL, they started the game without a midfielder in midfield. It was the possibly the worst City line up for some years. Give Villa credit great run and well done them, but to position this as some sort of Unai master class in a game where Arsenal were by some distance the better team as supported by the stats is false….

sounds like you didn't watch the video. Don't let your bias get in the way of the facts. Also possession and xG are meaningless without context. And a lot of the Arse's xG came from one scrappy offside chance.

Villa are good team and Unai has them well coached, but it’s a stretch to say Unai did something that worked in respect of the Arsenal game…. As I’ve already set out, irrespective of what Unai did Arsenal were the largely the dominant team, as supported and evidenced by EVERY metric save for the goal obviously. The numbers don’t lie, Arsenal did plenty to win this game and were by some margin the better team. If you factor into that the fact we were denied another clear penalty….then it makes it even clearer… Well done Villa and Unai, it’s great to see them in the mix, and it was a good win for them but let’s not be dishonest about who objectively was the better team, and that Unai’s tactics had any meaningful impact on the game….the Arsenal front line misfired it’s that simple…..

Sort of right. Think for some reason villa feared arsenal more than city. Think it's because you could go long and expose our high line unlike city who just do plan A and are usually ruthless with it. Arsenal do many more tactical things to win. Could be slow and methodical at times then fast and ruthless at others. So arsenal was a more unpredictable opponent to plan for. But we can talk tactics and stats until we are blue in the face. Only the scoreline matters for 3 points.
