This is an official song about when Dan and I started a Halo Wars 2 game at 9-10pm, which lasted until 5am. It didn't end because someone won. It ended because I had to call it a draw and go to bed. After all, the sun was rising, and the game was a stalemate worse than World War One. I would have loved to have kept the game going, there was truly no idea of who was going to win and beat the other.
We like to play RTS's and other turn-based strategy games.
It's a fun and interesting playstyle matchup when we face each other.
(They're the Tactician in the song and I'm the Strategist)

Strategy is the overarching plan and movements of an operation. Tactics are the plans and movements within a strategy to achieve operational success. In truth, most RTS games have the player act as both a strategist and a tactician. Basically, a four star general who is severely understaffed.

I have felt this many times with fighting against AI armies in gruelling sieges on harder difficulties. The computer just never stops producing the "perfect counter" unit of its chosen faction and is able to spam them with free resources. While I bunker down with what scraps I have before I bleed the enemy dry of....everything. Economy, Military, and even of map control.

This song has been the exact feeling me and a buddy of mine get when we play warhammer. Two different methods of warfare brought to clash until the absolute end. An absolute banger!!

This reminded me of the PVE skirmishes matches i played on Beyond All Reason and Rusted Warfare. The bot is way more capable of managing a huge map than me (so the bot would be strategist), and while i can gain ground, the bots in depth defense and attrition gets me stopped because i can't hold the ground. So i'd say the strategist wins, as exemplified, a tactician wins battles, a strategist wins the war.

Brilliant. I honestly wish that I had the opportunity to experience something like this. I either lack knowledge somewhere, or my opponent does, regardless about what it is.

Just pray and have faith. Your next life will be on the front line if the father chooses you and you accept the tasking. I promise. Learn everything you can from every opponent in every situation. Cogitation is a friend to a leader. There was once a tribal Bushman who insisted I follow him away from my unit. He couldn't speak English but another man told me what he was so insistent and belligerent about, he wanted to teach me something... I looked at him like I'm an ivy League West point pilot vitki who practices Qigong. What could a Bushman possibly have to teach me... Well he taught me another way to make fire just like the government in the military trained us but his was faster and easier and more reliable than anything they teach. That was the day I learned I had something to learn from every man

The winning general makes many plans before the battle is fought. The losing general makes few. And what can be said for making no plans at all?

While many might dismiss tactics with the old phrase "Amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics/strategy." I would not be so hasty. Because no one ever won a war by losing all the battles. Better strategy and logistics gives you more resources to work with, more room for failure, and greater endurance in any conflict but that alone does not bring victory, it merely keeps defeat at bay longer. To achieve victory you must turn those advantages conferred to you by strategy into battlefield results. That is where the Genius Tactician can defeat the Brilliant Strategist. Just look at Alexander of Macedon and Darius of Persia. Darius had vast wealth, hordes of troops, and an empire that spanned three continents, while Alexander only had the League of Corinth and the resources Hellas could muster. Yet Alexander emerged the Great and Victorious conqueror of Asia, because he never lost a battle. Never assume that just because you have superior Resources, Grand Strategy, and Logistics that victory is inevitable, likewise never hope that your genius tactics are a panacea to all your strategic failings and weakness, as even mediocre but passable tactics backed by enough resources will grind you down eventually.

In modern warfare, the most high-ranking commanders need to understand strategy above all else. Tactical decisions can (and in some cases must) be delegated to local commanders.
@michaelthayer5351
@michaelthayer5351 28 күн бұрын
@@JohanDanielsson8802 Aye, but my point is more about how one shouldn't disregard the actual fighting that goes into a battle or a war. For a more modern example look at The Battle of France in 1940. Germany was in an awful position from a strategic and logistic standpoint. She could not match the Allies potential for industrial capacity and manpower, was reliant on the Soviet Union for resources(that had to be paid for in limited gold or industrial equipment), and her allies, namely Italy had mostly proclaimed neutrality. Yet, the initiative and genius shown by German Commanders and Generals during the actual fighting demonstrated that strategic and logistical shortcomings could be alleviated by battlefield success. It wasn't ultimately enough for Germany to win the war, as the Allies eventually figured out combined arms as well and showed they could be just as adept.

Brother of history, Alexander had the Balkans unified. Other than the Hellens, Alexander also commanded the Thracians from the planes Thrace and the Dachians around the Dunabe river. Only the Spartans weren't unified by him from the Balkans. That in of itself, by itself, is a feat no one else in history have managed to achieve.

@@TheInfamousDarkTroll Even that is not equivalent to Egypt, Anatolia, Babylonia, Assyria, Media and the rest of the Iranian plateau. Not even the Arabs could keep that united for as long as the Persian Empire did.

Russia, 1812; in the Russia Napoleon had not lost a single battle before he was forced to retreat. The same can be said about the 2nd Punic War which saw Hannibal have to pull out of Italy not because of any battle against Hannibal (at the time) but because the Romans develop the Fabian strategy starting a great war of attrition which Hannibal was bound to lose.
