On June 12, 2009, the remake of “The Taking of Pelham 123” premiered in theaters. The film, directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, was the most intensive film shoot New York City Transit had ever done. 6 weeks of filming took place on New York City Transit property, with over 25 cars being used for the film over that course of time. One car, R62A 2079, was dressed up as an R142A inside and out, as it is not possible to operate a single R142A car by itself. I checked in on R62A 2079 yesterday, as well as some of the other R142As (many of which have since been converted to R188s) to see how they are 15 years after their claim to fame.
