Her mother sold her out n her husband refused to help. Heck he only came back when he knew the battle was over, expecting her to be dead by then. But when he saw she wasn't n wasted the soldiers, he had his weapon in hand, ready to attack her till she noticed him n he got scared, dropping the dagger. Those two were in cahoots for sure cuz how would he know that they'd be there for her if he wasn't an accomplice.

The ex husband was a different kind of disgusting to me. Deliberately doing nothing knowing that would lead to his wife’s (Mizu’s) death (or so he thought). Only to return to pretend to be on her side as if it just took him a long time to get there. It’s a tragic lesson that doing nothing is a decision in itself, on top of all of the other lessons that have been already mentioned.

What is dumb is ppl think her husband betrayed her just cuz he lost their fight. He wanted a friendly non potential lethal spar. But she wanted blades out fight, disrespected him by saying he has no backbone, and got turned on by putting a blade to his neck and kissing him while blade still on his neck. This episode subtlety shows Mizus mentality. She doesn't know whether Mikio or Mama betrayed them but since the mere possibility shatters her, so both die. This is why she wants to kill all 4 white men because regardless if theyre her father they must die for the possibility that they brought in the world and caused her pain.

Nah that's oversimplifying it a bit. With "mama" and Mikio she realized that even if one of them didn't betray her trust then they would always be prone to do so in the future because neither liked who she truly was and at that moment she realized that she was burying herself and letting go of her mission for the two of them. She didn't stop them from fighting because they were no longer a part of her future so when one was taken out she took out the other to keep them both in her past. As for the White Devil's, they represent her means to an end, her promise and that's all that matters in the end to her. They were all present that day so they all pay. We might find out one of them was the reason she survived that night next season.

Crazy how "the straw that broke the camel's back" for Ringo was Mizu letting Akemi get taken. Mizu made it clear that she is out for blood, even threatened to kill him when he first bothered her.

Yes and no. He saw her as a good person with a thick shell that still always does what's right and only gets rid of "evil" people. Until that moment where she allowed them to take Akemi and basically dooming her to her fate. Akemi was neither evil or a threat so he wasn't cool with that.

Reminder that within the japanese culture of discipline and with sparring matches itself, Mizu demonstrated her bit of sadistic bloodlust that is emphasized over again throughout the eps that come after. TBH if I knew my partner was a capable sword fighter and I was too, a sword fight around our favorite hideaway spot would be super romantic.

Its not as simple as he was salty cause he lost, its a combination of things. Its like they've been saying the whole time, Mizus training and quest was one driven by hate, which made her a monster. Women in that time period were nothing like Mizu. They didnt train to be leathal swordsmen capable of killing their own husbands if needed. They were supposed to be caring, Submissive, and helpless. Mizu showing him that shes not only a skilled fighter, but is better than he was in that duel was shocking, scary, and a turnoff. You could see it in his face the whole time. He never looked like he was enjoying it, more-so trying to keep up. While we saw the Passion Mizu was showing while fighting, he could see the hatred and evil that led her to training in the first place. As if it were coming off to him as an energy. Its a combination of the evil behind her sword skills, and how much it goes against their old tradition.

Man I swear the likeminded comedy watching you guys will always be as good as any show being viewed. "I am Yulaw!".....popped in my head literally right before Lupa said it. This episode was tragically epic. The story within the story element was flames. The sword/weights combo into a naginata was too sick! I get why Akemi might be mad but Mizu almost died multiple times in that fight and had she given up at any of those points, they would all be dead along with her. Letting Akemi get taken back may have been the last good thing Mizu did for the princess if for no other reason then the fact that at least she would live. On top of that the guy Akemi came for is now locked in a dungeon within the most guarded place in the land likely barely clinging to life. Akemi's journey was sadly over.

Mizu's husband was a ronin, so I figured that he sold her out because he wanted to serve his lord again, and not be an outcast anymore. But when the mother and the ronin started arguing about who sold out Mizu, someone was lying but by that point the truth didn't matter anymore to Mizu because she realized that those things are just distractions. BTW someone of Mizu's skill would be unnerving to see even if she wasn't a woman. It reminds me of a similar storyline in the manga Blade of the Immortal, where the greatest fighter in it was a woman, who became a prostitute because she couldn't marry normally, and her skills meant nothing as well.
