Millennium Tower, Aeropolis 2001, Shimizu Mega City Pyramid, X-Seed 4000, and Tokyo Babel Tower are all projects that were planned or conceived during Japan's bubble economy around 1990. However, all of these projects are now frozen or gone, and there is no possibility of their realization. These projects were dreamt up at a time when Japan had a growing population and booming economy. It has neither of those anymore. You can only justify such massive mega-projects if you have a HUUUGE population to begin with. Japan's population is expected to be halved by 2100. In fact the entire world is experiencing a demographic crunch as people stop having children in sufficient numbers to maintain population growth. Right now we have nearly 8 billion people, with the same population density as Afghanistan at 58 per square km. that's quite low since we have a TON of empty land to build on. America alone has enough empty, barren land to home billions of people. This isn't visionary, it's fucking megalomaniacal.

The X-Seed 4000, Shizimu Mega-City Pyramid, and the Tokyo Tower of Babel were all meant to be a methodical way to make a city inside a single building. That sounds weird, buildings inside a bigger building, but this was quite systematic because now, you can walk from your grandma's house on the other side of the city and stay in the same building. But no one wanted the idea of living in a city that has 1 building. Well, there's a town where everyone lives in 1 building. Its name is Whittier and it's in Alaska. But Whittier is just creepy. Unsurprisingly, no one wanted to spend more than the world's GDP on a 10,000-meter building that takes 150 years to build, so it wasn't built.

Hey whittier is nice. It just got that nickname because the town only has like 200 inhabitants anyway. There are uncountable amounts of condominiums in cities with that much or way more people living in it and getting their everyday needs in it. I guess with bigger projects like with tokyo, it begs the question why? What’s the advantage to cover a whole town with a building? So you can control the weather? As we near the end of 2022, I'm confident that Burj Dubai is going to remain the tallest in the world for some time. All others are "dreamy" and most probably not going to ever happen. As for the Jeddah (Kingdom) tower, it appears to have stalled construction or is fully abandoned.

@@obinnaobiekwe4910 the singer was an office building but with its obscure slender tower it was built out of time for the more modern day office demands of the 60s 70s. Building a straight based tower based on the orignal "fat" singer base created far more space. One liberty plaza that replaced it has virtually an acre of space per floor. Ironic thing is with the introduction of the internet + covid, office working has now moved to being mainly done from home, making buildings like one lib plaza redundant anyway 🤷🏽‍♂️

There was a proposal back in the early 20th Century where they suggested to build aerodromes that were on massive, concrete towers so they they were already at operating altitude for the aircraft of the day. Also, there will be a skyscraper in Malaysia that will be completed in the next year considering the project is almost finished. I think the height is around 650-700 meters. It's also have a spire, a long one. But still, the whole spire is an usable space, because the spire is meant to be an observatory deck.

That means that you have to destroy thousands of perfectly fine buildings, relocate people to other parts of the country cus you removed the housing in the place where they lived and hope that you have enought money, hands and time to finish the giant project you have started. Then you also have to hope that people actually wanna move back to the place from where they had to move in the first place, cus while that thing was being build, other parts of the country was being developed into something else that people actually learned to live in. All that is just too huge a risk. Remember that in order to go all Akira, Tokyo has to be destroyed first.

Hey MBS! I was looking forward to see this kind of video from you, because I was always interested in skyscrapers. The next thing I like in your videos is the music! Is it from KZbin or do you make it yourself? It sounds really good 😊 Greetings from the Czech republic 😉

I really have but one question: Myself having been to Tokyo and knowing the utter lack of unused real estate in Tokyo City where on earth would they find the open space to build the base of a tower that reaches six miles in the sky! Not unless they were to flatten the gorgeous mountainous terrain on the outskirts. The buildings are beautiful though…

There have been plans to use the Tokyo Bay, much like Dubai makes man-made islands or how the Netherlands has reclaimed territory from the sea. Of course, we'll have to wait and see (pun unintended) what the future holds for these projects.

@@Manuel1112221 I'm not entirely sure if you'd even need land reclamation for something that big, i'm not even sure if land reclamation would even make sense here it could very well have its foundation built directly into the sea bed, it could in fact REQUIRE it as its enormous mass and related subsidence problems may preclude building the foundation on anything else than solid bedrock a structure this big would actually cause significant earthquakes because it's mass would cause a shift in the crust beneath it as the planetary surface readjusts itself for the sudden existence of an entirely new _mountain_

It’s a publicity stunt. Even the companies involved admitted it as such. Ridiculous list.

@@mensrea1251 And that pertains to this discussion how exactly? we are talking about massive arcologies in general and where you would build them if you had to, not about how x-seed was supposed to be build because we know it wasn't and why it is a ridiculous list? because it includes visionary concepts never supposed to be build? x-seed for example was also supposed to encourage discussion of more unusual and unconventional projects, which it succeded at and still sparks such discussions even today, like here for example stop trying to drag everyone down with your mediocrity
