@EfraimPalvanov did I misheard, or I may have misunderstood you when you said the Babylonian empire was not established "yet" and the Talmud was written during the Persian empire. I was just a little confused with that statement because, as you just confirmed, the Babylonian empire preceded the Persian.

@@newbru The Babylonian Empire had ceased to exist by the time of the Talmud. The Talmud was composed in the Sasanian Persian Empire. So, the question is why is it called "Bavli" or "Babylonian" if it wasn't actually composed in Babylon? (Also keep in mind that there are two Talmuds, the other being the "Yerushalmi" or "Jerusalem" Talmud, which was composed in Israel.)
