I don't support Tinubu but on this tax bill which i took my time to review the detials, i am perfectly with him and the proposal. Ndume is masking the truth behind his disdain for the bill. The reasons he quoted are just to mask the truth. The bill moves us towards the idea of " eat only what you produce" Lottery and alcohol taxes allocation will reduce drastically from the North since Sharia laws dont permit them. Thats the bottom line of his pain....the loss of free revenue from taxes generated by Southern commercial activities.

Hate him or love him, Sen. Ndume owns his conscience. He is not one of those sell out APC senators that sing Kumbaya, bend down for power and lick the shoes of the president. He is straight, astute and honest. You can hate his opinion but you cant hate his truth. Kudos Senator, we are with you.

With all due respect to Senator Ndume, in what way is the timing wrong, except if tax is abolished? I’m seriously having problems with that argument. In the western world, as they say, two things are certain in life, death and taxes. As an accountant, who is also a Senator, this is his opportunity to assess and tinker with the bill. Government needs revenue, is it only from the customs? Can that alone fund the government and prevent borrowing? He has not made any convincing argument to me, only to criticize, which is not helping his position. I don’t think he has completely read the bill at all.

The senator did not educate the public beyond letting us know he is opposed to the bill. He did not have superior reasons and all he is trying to do is obstruct the process.The govt can and should block leakages,increase revenue collection AND can do reform at the same time. He said the numbers are wrong - then bring your numbers to counter. It's imperative that the senator articulates clearly what the objections and what the remedies are ,so that we the public are more informed
@ishaqapalando2 сағат бұрын
Tax experts coming to the Senate was fine. But making it a surprise visit was wrong - it robbed people of adequate preparation to engage the experts. Providing an agenda (order of the day?) to senators was to allow for adequate preparation. A matter as this should not be allowed as a matter of urgency when even a day notice would have been fine. Even companies must disclose special business in advance before AGMs let alone the Senate.

ndume's reasons - by extension, the northern bloc - for rejecting the tax reforms 1. the timing - nigeria is undergoing her biggest economic crisis ( so we must continue to tax the poorest?) 2. the derivation issues (so monkey should continue to chop baboon's work and vice versa?) 3. if the government is already exceeding their revenue targets (customs & FIRS) why do they need to borrow (so we can't raise even more funds , to fund more projects?) 4. why the hastiness in passing the bills without allowing wider consultation. (where was he all this time, when the tax committee were doing consultations for more than a year? what other consultations do we need to have ?) 5. why's the world bank taking charge of our budgetary process (is this the first time they're providing technical support? will the senate still not do their usual nonsense of budget padding?)
@SCh99123 сағат бұрын
…Let the Bill get in and be signed in to law first!!! SS have suffered derivation since; Buhari would not even consider a 2 percent increment nor discuss who is an oil producing state, you all rem⁉️

@@doctaler Hence my remark that he's a gaslighter for the ff reasons 1- Now is the perfect time to do it, in order to stimulate a flagging economy & give relief to the working class etc 2. The derivation concerns is ultimate gaslighting, since they've either falsely attributed what the bill doesn't intend to do, or they're not really forthcoming about what exactly is their issue with the derivation concerns 3- Our budget size is ridiculous compared to our population, development needs, potential etc 4- It isn't hasty. Oyedele has been engaged with stakeholders throughout the length & breath of the nation for over a year. The nation can't afford a 20-year PIB-like endless debate that kept potential investors away 5- The World Bank isn't taking charge of our budgeting process, rather providing technical support. I don't like it either, but let's not mix issues. That's a separate issue from the Tax Reforms
@doctaler38 минут бұрын
@@chimereh.achilefu9176 1. you're absolutely right, what other time is better other than now? 2. they're scared their allocation will drop based on their comparatively lower economic activity/consumption, when it should be seen as a challenge to do better 3. it's like a slap on the wrist every year, and these clowns will still insert baseless money wasting projects in the name of budget padding 4. exactly! why's he acting like the committee work dropped from heaven last month 5. he knows, they regularly provide technical support in our budget framework
