I love how the debate about whether or not Ward was actually a decent person at heart or not, can be so divisive. It is a testament to the writers of this show that they left the answer to that question so complex and ambiguous (well at least in my mind anyway) throughout seasons 1 and 2. I mean in season 3 he is definitely a villain so that ambiguity was gone, but it was fun and interesting to try and anticipate how Ward's story would play out. Such great writing. Hats off to Jed, Maurissa and Jeff.

OtherVids but then it runs the risks of the LMD having the mindset of the previous real person that they were modeled after since Ward was fully dedicated to restoring Hydras heads after Coulson got the old heads to slaughter each other after Whitehall died . I would have loved for them to make a Ward LMD. Wards LMD would just get negative looks and wouldn’t probably be trusted by Coulson, May, Fitz-Simmons and Daisy and he could go full Hydra again at any moment. I mean the only ppl that wouldn’t have an ax to grind with LMD Ward are Mack, Deke, Yo yo, Piper and Davis.

May's comment about trauma pisses me off and I love the irony that it holds after season four. Fitz who is the heart of the show is put in similar circumstances to Ward though nowhere near as bad and he turns out just like Ward, arguably worse. Every single one of these high minded hypocrites are no better than he is. In Ward's place they'd all turn out just like him
@unknown-xr3lq
@unknown-xr3lq 3 жыл бұрын
This line irritated me as well but I think that was the point of it, may doesn't see how what happened to her is so different from what happened to ward, because while what she'd been through was horrible and traumatic I wouldn't compare an adulthood trauma to childhood/teenage trauma because the burden of growing up like ward or daisy did is heavy, everyone is shaped by the way they're raised and the environment they grew up in and the influence they're surrounded by and from what we know about ward until his adulthood or until he met the team he was only surrounded and influenced by toxic ones so it's not hard to unterstands why he became like this or why he can't just snap out of it. With May though, she lived a traumatic experience and she still not over it but going through something while you're an adult and in result of a job you chose is way different than living with an abuse since childhood because of circumstances were forced on you since we don't choose our families, beside May got the support from her friend, her family and her ex-husband who is also a psychiatrist while Ward the only 'help' he got was Garrett's the man who pushed him even further down the edge. But I think the point of her comment also is they'll never see the things from his point of view, which reminds me of daisy's line s3: "When you grew up like we did, it ... it impacts how you see the world. Everything is filtered through a very specific lens. And Ward got that."

This scene means nothing after everything Ward did in season 3 before dying. He killed Rosalind and tortured Fitz and Simmons and much more. I actually thought that this scene meant something. A new beginning. New trust. But instead they were like "Ah, let's make Ward evil again and kill him off after that emotional scene in season 2, nobody will care". Well, yes, we do care and Brett Dalton was the best actor in this show. The series is almost nothing without him. They didn't even bother to give Ward a chance to show up in the 100th episode. He was part of the first team of the series and they are all pretending like he never happened.

I agree, and I am so pissed that they made Mack the new director, he basically joined Coulson's team as a spy for Gonzalez, and decided to leave SHIELD if Coulson had remained the director. He kidnapped Hunter and was unnecessarily being rude to Joey and Lincoln. Somehow they forgot all of that. Before Mace's death Simmons was the highest ranking agent, she should have been the director.

No, people, Ward did NOT deserve redemption. So what, he had regrets? Big deal. He still commited heinous atrocities and killed a whole bunch of SHIELD agents who were actually moral. He's a psychopath. Yes, child abuse is a scaring, emotionally traumatic event. But they don't usually end up MURDERING EVERYONE THEY'RE TOLD TO! May was right, "We all have scars. That didn't turn us into psychopaths." And he makes it very clear here that he has absolutely no remorse for the lives he's ended. He STATES this! What's there to redeem?

Callian r yes all the team made mistakes that's human ward knew what he was doing you can tell that they know what they are doing by their facial expressions and one more thing you can tell by the fact that when Coulson said watch it Ward you do realize Coulson really loves May don't you guys If there is anyone from the old days who deserves redemption it's Bucky because you know since he is Steve Rogers best friend that he would never willingly join HYDRA the reason Howard Stark was killed by Bucky is because Bucky s memories were erased and Howard doesn't look the same as used to anymore Steve still looks the same despite him wearing different suits and all and being in a different timeline he still has the same face which explains the difference between Steve and Tony Tony thinks about the future but doesn't reflect on the past Steve does even though Steve may have lied to him to protect Bucky that doesn't mean Tony should live with revenge in his heart if Spiderman saw what he was doing he would probably see the error of his ways

+HeroGamer Bro, you obviously have never had to forgive someone or been forgiven. That is the whole point of forgiveness, when there is no reason whatsoever for you to forgive someone for the wrong and terrible things they've done but you forgive them, it makes all the difference in the world forgiveness is a powerful thing and it heals friendships and kills the roots of bitterness. 👌
@clareb.8409
@clareb.8409 8 жыл бұрын
+caleb carroll Well, forgiveness is the second step in a process of healing (the first step being getting rid of your anger torwards something, not letting it control you), and alot of people never get to that step. It's a truth, and after all the things Ward did completely not even influenced by other people, you can understand why the team never forgave him.

Forgiveness has to be earned, and you do that by proving you've changed, which Ward did not. Could they have tried harder to understand why he became the way he was and show him compassion/give him a second chance? Sure. But I don't blame them for how they treated him, because betrayal cuts deep. Ultimately, it was up to Ward to try to turn his life around and do good, and he didn't. It's a sad story, but that doesn't mean Ward isn't responsible for his actions. I can agree with placing some of the blame on Ward's abusive family and on John Garrett (although that still doesn't absolve Ward himself of anything), but definitely not on the team. It was not their responsibility to rehabilitate Ward.

When you spend a lifetime doing the wrong; the things that follow goes something like this. Ward followed someone evil, and especially after when said evil person taught you how to kill, and said person saved you from a life and death and loneliness. Can you really just assume that the right thing is a concept lost to him. It is a strange subject for ward. His entire life has been if you're strong you rule. This very universe proves that sentiment.

I feel like they were trying to setup a redemption arc for Ward, but they changed their minds. It would have been better if they had given him a redemption arc because the whole subplot of him kidnapping Bobbi was just kind of jammed into the last few episodes, and if they had given Ward a redemption arc, they could have also given one to Agent 33 and that way both Ward and Cara would both become shield agents again. It would also give us more time to give her some character development in season 3. This way, Ward could also stay on the show. It would have also been meaningful because Cara could have killed off later as a fully fledged character. She would die a shield agent, and this would give Ward more character development as well. This could have made possibly given Ward a better relationship with the team and Shield. This, way Ward and the team would not hate each other, and they would stay loyal to each other. Cara’s death would also open up the possible for Ward and Daisy to get together because Lincoln would die, and Ward could be there to comfort her and she would have been there for him when Cara died. This all would mean that Ward would also remain a good guy. It would also make him a much more memorable character, because he would be genuinely good and we would remember him as that. If they decided to kill him off later on, than it would be a much more meaningful death. Of course though, I would want him to stay on the whole series. Also, this means that we could keep Will as hive, and this would be much more meaningful to explore because we already knew Ward. We were not really exploring hive as a character. We were just reflecting back on Ward and who he was. If Will Daniels was Hive, we could have explored him more as a character as well as Hive. It would also give Simmons more character development because of her time on Maveth. This way, Ward would also be plugged back into the Framework, and so could Simmons. For Ward, he would still be working for Shield because that could be his biggest regret by this point, and Simmons could have Will as a partner in the Framework. This way, Daisy would have to work extra hard to get everyone out of the Framework on her own. Things would work out the same as they did in season 5, but Ward would be with them in space. Things in season 6 would play the same, except Ward would be there, and in season 7 Ward would see Garrett again, and Ward would talk to Garrett and try to make him stay loyal to shield. Ward would fail. Garrett would help them for a while, but they would all get captured by the cronicoms and Garrett would reveal that he sold them out so that he would not be captured or killed. This would make Ward realize that Garrett never cared about anybody, and he only saw other people as tools to help himself. This would of course bother Ward. They would all be taken to a cell. Garrett would be put in charge of interrogating them for Nathanial Malak. He would ask where Fitz was. Nobody would know, of course. Garrett would point a gun at Ward. Everyone would beg him not to. Coulson tried as hard as he could to break the cuffs; but he only broke them at the last moment. Garrett would pull the trigger. Ward would close his eyes, thinking he was going to die, but Coulson dived in front of Ward and took the bullet. Coulson was shot, but it was nothing too serious of course. Coulson was a cronicom, so he would be fine. Being free, Coulson would knock out Garrett, and free everyone else. This would make Ward realize that Garrett never really cared about him, but Coulson, the team Daisy, SHIELD, they always did. At the end of the series finale, Ward and the team would be together in a bar with Ward still working for Shield because he has now realized that SHIELD has always been, is now, and will always be his true family. This is just what I think would happen.

I know Ward's a villian, but at here he was already trying to help the team and they keep trying to not only kill him but keep mentally ruining him. Had they actually tried to help he'd probably be a good guy instead of a dead psycho.
@Vrex360

I argue he did try to help. The SHIELD team fucked up every aspect of his custody, they kept him in solitary for six months despite his obvious mental and emotionally instability, they offered him no psychiatric care for his suicidal tendencies, they sold him to his abuser WHILE emotionally manipulating him, they tried to kill him multiple times including at least once when he was in custody and then they sit there cussing him out from an ivory tower they in no way earned. This show suffers from severe protagonist centered morality, all that shit is what the VILLAINS are supposed to do.

jockadoobee They did sell him to his abuser. Christian would give them good publicity for a price. That price was Grant Ward, who they gave away without concern.

jockadoobee: Yeah dude I don't like Trump and I loathe the Alt Right. I'm a died in the wool leftist to my core. Yet I'm not gonna just shrug away from problematic issues in television shows when I see them and they totally did trade him off to his abuser which is really unsettling when you think about the messages behind that. It tells us that it's 'okay' for the heroes to work with a child abuser provided they have enough of a grudge against their victim. Ward did bad things but he needed actual help and therapy. He was mentally unstable, and if you don't have a problem with working with child abusers, solitary confinement, waterboarding (Fitz), and refusing to provide therapy for someone's multiple suicide attempts. Ward may have been 'the bad guy' but what the show endorsed by never talking about it *really* pissed me off.

maria gutierrez you're right. I think Ward was being honest and genuine about how he feels about the rest of the team, but TBH I probably would've said what they said. They don't believe he's genuine because at the end of the day, he killed people and instead of taking TRUE responsibility for his actions, he kept pushing the responsibility on his parents, his brother, Garrett and HYDRA

Ward repeatedly acknowledges his guilt in all this, he's acknowledging the CIRCUMSTANCES that lead him to making his choices. Which is actually true, like in a trial those factors would actually contribute to his sentencing.

I believe they the reason the team hates ward so much is not because he betrayed them. It's because of what that betrayal meant, destroying the family, destroying Fitz's brain and playing with Skye's feelings (he really loved her I know but he knew that if she found out she would hate him, he knew that it would be twice as hard for Skye when she realized that he was Hydra if she was in love with him). The point I'm trying to make is that for them Ward is destruction and is the personification of everything they hate. And I know that Ward has been through a lot but at the end of this season Skye's mom tries to kill her and watches her father kill her mom and that doesn't turn her into a psychopath, she admits in season 3 that she understands Ward and how he got to where he was and she says that her mom did the same with her, but she was able to snap out of it as soon as she saw what her mom was capable of...Ward situation was more complicated and harder but he could have snapped out of it if he really wanted to.

You don't just become a psychopath because some traumatic shit happens to you after your teen years. You are molded into a psychopath by the environment in your early years. Skye didn't turn into a psychopath because she was already an adult when her mum tried to kill her. Ward was a child when his family abused him, and then further refined when Garret, a psychopath, became his father figure. You're putting child abuse on the same level as emotional trauma (at an older age) when its 2 different things, and it just isn't that simple. The former would really determine how you'll be like in the future, the latter will likely not affect one as much

@@td.z1 of course that they are not the same thing, but after all we are talking about characters, Skye (although she was an adult) wasn't defined as a character until she met her parents and everything that came with that. Ward wasn't a defined character until he met Garret. They both were trying to define who they where, doesn't matter the age. I understand that a teenager is easier to "brainwash" but trust me, that can easily happen to someone who is on their mid twenty's and still doesn't know who they are or what their beliefs are, they walk through the world lost and confused. When Coulson found Skye her sense of who she was became better, but she really is defined in season 2, discovering she is an inhuman, learning her real story, even learning her real birthday. I believe that Skye lived her teenage years later than everyone else. Plus we actually don't know what happened to Skye during her childhood, we never got any flashbacks or anything and she isn't very open about her childhood. And one last thing, I still think that they could have forgiven Ward with time (like they forgived Piper on season 5) but the writers wrote him as a simbol, a simbol of destruction and pain, even in season three hive has Ward's body and hive caused tremendous pain to Daisy just as Ward did go Skye.

Pushing Fitz and Simmons to their certain death in the middle of the ocean thereby giving Fitz brain damage? Kidnapping Skye twice and threatening to rape her twice? Killing Hand? Unleashing bad people into the world from the Fridge? Killing innocent guards? Killing his family? Hmmm .........let me see. I don't think so. He is evil. A very bad guy. And now apparently head of hydra - an organization bent on taking over the world that is based in nazism. So no, Just no. The sooner someone takes him out - the better.

@fennsty
@fennsty 9 жыл бұрын
+Mighty Pac-Man Why would Ward sacrifice himself for anyone. He has done nothing up to now to suggest he would ever do that. Even his 'apology' to the team in this clip is all about Ward and poor Ward and he takes absolutely no responsibility for his actions. Everyone on the team hates him. So your question will never come to fruition. The writers say Ward is a villain and has very litle chance for redemption or to be forgiven by his team.
