I remember seeing The Teddy Neeley Five on this show. In 1973 when I saw a "Ted" Neeley was starring in the JCS film I wondered if this was the same guy. Then I heard his first note as Jesus. Oh yeah, that's him, no doubt. Perfect choice.

I love him! JCS is my favorite and I had the great luck and pleasure of seeing him and Carl Anderson perform JCS at the Universal Amphitheater in 1993. It was such an awesome, incredible performance by both of them! Dennis DeYoung of "Styx" played Pilate. The whole performance was great. Unfortunately, Yvonne Elliman was unable to make the Los Angeles performances in the tour, but her understudy was very good. Ted and Carl were enough to bring the audience to a standing ovation. Just an awesome performance by all!

Burt Bachrach wrote the song. (w/Hal David) Dionne Warwick was the original singer of course. Ted Neely had the range to make it a vocal song, and not necessarily more of a pop song like Naked Eyes. Not that it was bad, but Burt wrote vocalist songs for vocalists. Clearly Ted Neely was a gifted singer and for his era it may have been that it was a 'band era.' Right? Whereas if he was in the 80's...he could've done a George Michael thing. (maybe Paul Young?) That's the era where labels were signing male solo singers more. This was a band era- Beatles, Stones, and on and on. Wonderful singer and a handsome guy Ted Neely.

Teddy had a great group of musicians backing him up who didn't seem get the recognition they deserved. Lynn Ready who is playing guitar on Teddy's left, has his own album on iTunes so check out his music there. Before joining Teddy, Lynn had put together several musical groups one of which was the Bostweeds who consisted of Kenny (King) Heidemann, Steve (Buf) Lindsey and Dennis (Doc) Culver. Russ Meyer of sexploitation movie fame had Lynn's group record the title song, "Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill". Lynn sang lead and wrote the music for the title track although the two men who wrote the rest of the films music, took credit for Lynn's music too. Shady! The Bostweeds members know Lynn wrote the songs music since they were all there at the time. Lynn went on to play with the Persuaders, which included Dennis Provisor, JoAnne Vent, David Johnson and Dale Aiola. This is when I first met Lynn and it was a great time at Wayne Manor a club in Sunnyvale. Next came The Teddy Neeley Five, until Teddy's manager got him into film and the group went their separate ways. Lynn started a singing group called "The Spice Racq" along with Teddy's drummer Paul Tabet and they hit the road again. Hope this bit of trivia is helpful for those who have heard or knew some of these groups and musicians.

Lou Johnson released the song in 1964. Besides writing the song with Hall David, Burt Bacharach conducted, arranged and produced this version. Dionne didn't release the song until 1968. "Though he never achieved major stardom, Johnson was the vocalist who introduced both this familiar Bacharach-David tune and their “Reach Out For Me,” plus he also recorded an early version of their “Kentucky Bluebird” (aka “Message To Michael”)…all before Dionne Warwick and others later succeeded in turning those titles into best-selling hits. Burt himself produced, arranged, and conducted this version. In 1983 the song finally achieved a top-10 ranking on the weekly U.S. record charts with the Naked Eyes hit." (There's) Always Something There to Remind Me" is a song written by American songwriting duo Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Originally recorded as a demo by Dionne Warwick in 1963, "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me" first charted for Lou Johnson, whose version reached No. 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 in mid-1964.[1] Sandie Shaw took the song to No. 1 in the UK that same year, while the duo Naked Eyes had a No. 8 hit with the song in the US two decades later in 1983.

Believe it or not, you almost certainly **didn't** see this episode during the original run of the show -- because it was the episode that CBS banned and never broadcast! According to IMDB, it never made it to TV until 1993.

He had golden pipes then, after that he apparently evolved them to the maximum. You see where he got the blues and soul from.

Until recently, I never heard this version of this song. I like it way better than the 80s version.
