It's a trip to see kids like this. I was born in Kassala, Sudan in the mid-eighties. I've spent every birthday in the states besides my first one. I'm not sure about other Eritrean parents. My parents rarely speak to me about how we got to the states and the exact details. I've been to Eritrea once when I was ten. By the grace of mother's genius. I was able to come back from my two months trip over their fluent in Tigrinya. You see, most Eritreans in America hear and reply in Tigrinya. Most of the time we are around black Americans. Black Americans usually poke fun or say something smart when they hear a foreign tongue. Eritreans don't really speak their tongue in front of others because of this. My mother had a clever little rule when we landed in Asmara that summer I visited. She said that from that point on and up until we returned to the states. She would not answer or speak to me in English. For the first two to three weeks. I felt like I had become fluent in sign language. After a bit, what I had heard at home my whole life started to cognitively make sense in my oral abilities. I'm in my early thirties now. I watch Eritrean comedy videos and interviews as well as speak to my parents in Tigrinya as much as I can. It's hard for me to see what's happening with kids like this. I've been to England and Scotland once for a performing arts trip in high school. It's a nice place. Eritreans cultural thought and way of looking at life and people usually keeps us in the good grace of whatever host nation we arrive in. To this kid and even my first cousin Mahdein who is similar to this kid that lives in France now. Your countrymen and people in other countries (like the British) are always with you. It may not seem like it sometimes. But, as faithful of a Christian I know you are. Keep your head high and have the same faith in humanity. God bless and brahwa haway!
