I saw him in Detroit driving down the street in his green convertible w/his trademark glasses. I started yelling & he laughed/waved & blew me a kiss. BTW, the songwriter Smokey Robinson (though I never met him) is my cousin. He & my dad hung out together before I was born. Motown had its acts on point in every aspect from vocals/the look/choreography. Every boy band that has synchronized dancing has The Temptations to thank!

This one's my personal favorite from The Temptations. They were SO good! Smooth. And yeah; back in the 60's, Motown wanted the groups to dress the same. And of course, there was the choreography. You really need to see the mini-series on the group, it gives a great dramatized history showing where they came from, how they came together, how they made it big, the problems, the member changes, etc. It's worth seeking out. There ought to be music history classes in school to keep these songs alive as you said, teach kids the roots, the growth of different genres, the historical context, the forms music came in, listen to the top songs each month from periods being taught.

One of my all time favorite songs! When these Motown songs first came out there was a local TV show right over the bridge from Detroit to Canada. It was called “Swinging Time”. Kids from school would go over there to dance on the show. They had guest performers and that’s where we first saw the Motown groups. I watched on TV because I was afraid of the bridge and the tunnel!! You really should watch the movie “The Temptations”. It’s a good movie and good history lesson! ❤️🎵

The Five Heartbeats is one of my favorite movies!!! the film is loosely based on the lives of several artists: The Dells, The Temptations, Four Tops, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Frankie Lymon, Sam Cooke and others according to Wikipedia. This was their song that set their career into orbit. It was Number One on The Pop Charts and Number One on The R & B Charts for Six Weeks. It was written by Smokey Robinson who wrote and co wrote alot of their early hits including Beauty's Only Skin Deep, I Know I'm Losing You, Get Ready. His Co Collaborator was Fellow Miracle Ronnie White and they guys taught it to them at The Apollo Theater and the rest is History. The Guitar Solo was done by Late Funk Brother Robert White. If you can check out Standing In The Shadows Of Motown, where you see and meet the guys who performed on 100 Of Motown's Greatest Hits. As for the Choreography it was done by Former Tapdancing Great Cholly Atkins. They were a major influence on both The Jackson Five & The "Original" New Edition. Also if you can check them out singing "It's Growing", you'll also be blown away by The Choreography.
