this song is in a class by itself for its originality, creativity, musicianship, and amazing vocals! ..definitely a timeless classic for all to appreciate and enjoy...for me, it brings back memories growing up in the NYC/NJ area...can't imagine Motown music without The Temptations...wished I could've seen them perform back in the day...thanks for sharing this musical masterpiece from the Motown archives!

The musicians backing them on this were in fact veteran jazz players. When Motown was being put together, Barry Gordy told his people to go find the best jazz and blues player they could dig up. There were originally 13 of them who became known informally as the Funk Brothers. They were placed under exclusive contract with Motown and would spend the day in the studio playing behind one group after another. They might start off the day doing something with The Miracles, take a quick break then the Supremes might come in. By the time Gordy took the company to the west coast and disbanded the group, they had played on more #1 records than Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys, and the Beatles COMBINED! If you'd like to know more about this side of Motown, look up the documentary "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown".
