1. Don't stress. 2. To earn students' respect, tell the kids a little bit about yourself, and then get to know them for a little bit. 3. Either follow the teacher's classroom management strategy, or (suggested) do your own classroom management (snack or treat at end). 4. Arrive early to review lesson plan. 5. Go out to recess with the kids. 6. Incorporate your own thing (a fun activity or mini-lesson). 7. Get to know the students, such as their names. 8. People will notice what you do. Know what you're doing counts. 9. Leave the classroom cleaner than you found it. 10. Have fun. You won't have to go back to the class if you don't want to.

any ideas for activities or mini lessons
@archiecook55 Жыл бұрын
Agree with most of these but for rewards, I would advise against bringing snacks because you don't know what the kids' allergies or other dietary needs are so it's a liability, plus food can be messy. Giving them little toys, pencils/erasers, or stickers are better options.

I've been subbing almost every school day of 2022 but it's my first year. I have had so much fun and your tips totally nail the reasons why I have fun. At all ages, kids want to learn from someone they respect. So prepare properly, plan to be great and to screw up, and realize that it's one day and nothing is more important than students (of any level) feeling like they were appreciated and understood on that day. Rock on sub squad!

I have been subbing for the past 8 years full time. I rarely miss a day. With this alternative program I believe it is possbiel for me to do this. I will be 70 yrs old on the 27th of this month. I have been working in the middle school ( 6th, 7th & 8th grades). I am tying to get hired as a paraprofessional in a class that I subbed in many times last school year. I think that will leave me with time to get the program done during the next school year so that I might be ready for a certified position for the next school year. I wanted to try to do this about 6 years agobut there was not a program at the time for this. I did not think I could recover the cost of getting certified. Hopefully I can work long enough to cover the cost & to make a difference & several students lives.

I appreciate this video. I’m starting to sub because of the shortage. I don’t plan on becoming a teacher but I should be starting my masters in library science next year so I wanted to gain experience with a wider age range.

This was so useful and awesome!! Thank you so much for this! I start subbing soon and I’m like you were at first. I want to do everything perfect and stressing a bit. What you said really calmed me about it all. Ultimately, if you care about what you’re doing and why, you’ll probably do just fine. Thanks again!!!

I might be your 100th subscriber. Eight to nine years ago I subbed for the district in which I am now on the school board. I still look back to the positive experiences I had which gave me the motivation to be where I am now. I will be moving in a year or less. I am interested in subbing again and we will see where it leads me this time. I have a full time 24/7 transportation job which can give me weekdays off. I've always loved school so I appreciate the opportunity to give back on my weekday-weekends, especially in STEM.

Very informative and real video for new subs! Due to the pandemic our town has an overwhelming need for subs so I said why not. My first day will be tomorrow and I have 0 classroom experience. It seems unusual but having a lesson plan in place will be harder since its unfamiliar. I will of course follow whatever directives the teacher has assigned and hopefully have some extra time for new activities. I'm in my element if I can teach a science class about atmospheric physics and how to read the sky since I chase severe storms. Thanks again for these tips and I hope it all works out.

It went very well I got to sub 3 classes. Great to help out during the pandemic and I was even allowed to teach professional photography for a high school art class. Its not all easy though especially when class sizes get large.which can be chaotic. I have a lot of respect to all the talented teachers out there that can do this full time.

Thank you so much! Tips are on point! best tip is Relax. When you get there early, you get prepared and acquaint yourself to the school and lesson plan.Be mindful of the environment. Most schools are grateful to see you. I Sub to help out schools in my community and extra income. Large county! Rural Urban Suburban. Lower Middle High Incomes. Stable Unable Dysfunctional environments. PreK-12. Just be prepared. BTW , we, I don’t get gas, the pay the same, 1.5 miles or 31 miles. That said, when I’m subbing good bad or indifferent, I look at faces eyes of our youngest ones with soooo much energy, They are our future. Do you think our Children know the power they hold? Peace💖

What type of snacks or rewards do you give out to the kids? Also how do you control kids with behavioral problems? Control the class to listen to you😔

I walk around and ask them individually if they need help or ask them to focus on their work. I feel like it gets difficult to get all of their attention once it has gotten out of control. So, once I hear them start to get louder I start to walk around. That helps me. But I am new at this so any other tips would be helpful.
