awesome stuff, Kate...especially #9...look back, every time I walk, most days I look back and see the scenery in a different light. Magical. And, of course, #10...carry extra that you can share...so glad you posted again...be well!

Thanks for your excellent channel. I've been day dreaming about doing the camino for about a decade. Trying to convince my brothers to do it with me lol

Great to see you again! Where is Cashew? Great discussion of what to keep in mind for how do our Caminos. I am planning for 2026.

My biggest one is don’t judge how others are doing their Camino. Maybe someone is transporting a bag or taking a taxi or bus occasionally or whatever. Kind of goes with the walk your own Camino idea; let others walk their own Camino.

Great tips. I have been investigating and the "Camino Francés" that people use today is not exactly the Camino used 1000 years ago. At that time the pilgrims used the ancient roman roads but today many of those roads are lost. For instance, the way across the Pyrenees was not across the top of the mountains, but using a little valley near to the today's way (the place where Roland was killed by the basques). I'm trying to locate as many parts of that road as possible.

I know there are definitely detours that you can do to walk the Roman, especially around Leon!

Thank you Kate. Great list. My thoughts: I agree, "Ignore the noise," Walk your own Camino, Don't let other people judge how you walk your Camino. Don't judge other pilgrims if they do the Camino differently than you. Ignore "vicious Camino dogs" ghost stories. Ignore "it's only a real Camino if you do _________" I disagree with the "snorer' issue. There are much worst offenders in abergues. People with headlamps in everyone's faces in the morning. People who feel the Camino is a party experience and stumble loudly into the dorms late while others are sleeping. People who flip on the room lights when everyone else is sleeping. People who literally dump the entire contents of their backpack in a hallway or access space. People who try to jump the line in front of other waiting at the washing machines. People who monopolize restrooms. People that do not pack their packs the night before (or in the hallway) and wake people. People who take long showers with no regards to long lines and limited hot water. People who think its a badge of honor not to shower frequently (or at all) and create a stench. I will happily take a dorm full of snorers over these inconsiderate people. The snorers don't have any control over snoring. Rude people make a decision to be inconsiderate or indifferent to their bunkmates. If a pilgrim is sensitive to sound and doesn't accept staying in a shared space, they should either wear earplugs or check into a hotel. I absolutely agree with "helping others on the Camino." Do frequent "Camino Kindnesses." Share with others Advil or Compeed, buy a cold drink or meal for a low budget pilgrim, give your bottom bunk to an injured or senior pilgrim, encourage pilgrims who are at a low point, make a goal of doing at least one "Camino Kindness" everyday. "It's a pilgrimage (whether you are religious or not), not a vacation. Embrace the spirit of the Camino and help other when and how you can.

Thank you for the wonderful comment! Sadly I was attacked by a vicious, protective dog on the Camino, so sadly they’re not just ghost stories. But instead of allowing my fear to get the best of me, I’ve learned how to be better prepared going forward. Cheers!!

Although I do think we can all agree that if someone is snoring loudly in the bunk above or below you, no earplug is going to drown that out. I get why it’s frustrating to not sleep a wink!

Being spooned by a a huge snorer? I’m sure Katie, that some people somewhere, might find that to be a thing. If I know I’m going to have a hard night, I’ll tend to sleep on the floor. It’s not much easier on me but it is on other bunk users

Yeah it was definitely the weirdest night I’ve had on the Camino 🤣
