I'm in the pre-dental stages of my journey to becoming a dentist. This video was great and so informative on the specialities and not in an overwhelming way. Thank you!!

Thanks for this video! Could you give an idea about dental specialities which requires least hand to motor coordination/ fine clinical skills (my foreign trained dentist friend is suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis and she's really worried about her future in dentistry).
@mentaldental4 жыл бұрын
There are definitely many opportunities in the dental field that don't require optimal motor coordination! To answer your question, I would say oral radiology, public health, and perhaps oral pathology.
@jimkaur68294 жыл бұрын
@@mentaldental Thanks for your reply. How about Orofacial pain and Oral medicine? I would really appreciate it if you could write all the specialities according to what you think orderwise from least to most. That would be so helpful! Thanks!

A question: Is restorative dentistry a subspecialty of prosthodontics or are they synonyms?
@mentaldental4 жыл бұрын
Restorative dentistry actually falls under the realm of general dentistry, and while crowns and bridges are restorative procedures, prosthodontics is not synonymous with that term.

Is there a full transcript (which includes all of the narration)? In a Word doc?

No, but there should be closed captioning on the video.

What about cosmetic dentistry?
@mentaldental4 жыл бұрын
Someone else asked about restorative dentistry, and cosmetic dentistry also falls under the realm of general dentistry. Some dentists like to advertise themselves or focus on the cosmetic aspects of the field but it is not an ADA-recognized specialty.
@murtazazaidi474 жыл бұрын
Can any of these specialists practice general dentistry if they didn't get an American DDS degree? Like, could an American endodontist, who previously earned a foreign dental degree, perform tooth extractions if need be?
@stephenraydentist4 жыл бұрын
Murtaza Zaidi I’m not entirely sure about what the procedure is for those who receive their general dentistry degree outside of the U.S. However, specialists can perform any procedures in general dentistry and general dentists can perform basically any specialist procedure (outside of a lot of OS procedures). Specialists are just considered better equipped to deal with difficult cases within their own specialties.

What about oral medicine specailist? orofacial pain specialist? who cares TMD in this category?
@mentaldental4 жыл бұрын
Among the ADA-recognized specialties that I presented, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or prosthodontist would be best equipped to diagnose and treat TMD. But as you pointed out, there are orofacial pain specialists who treat this!
