Yep, she turns into a full on bad ass in T2. Its a shame how ever they cut so much content out of Terminator though. Like the extended ending where we see where the Terminator is crushed was a business called Cyberdyne which is how they get the technology to build the terminators through a paradox.

@@RDRussell2, He did, and his older films like Terminator were just so well thought out and planned in such a way that its a captivating story. Like the intro about the future war and how the battle was to be fought for tonight. I feel his later films were a little more wonky compared to his earlier works. Like his Titanic film, while it was a great film I just felt the sappy love story was just way too forced and cliche.

This movie wasn't teken seriously at first either, I remember it being released straight to the grindhouses, the A list theaters wanted nothing to do with it. Not until it started making big money at the box office, then it finally got play in the "good theaters". Remember this was James Cameron's second movie, the first was "Piranha 2: the Spawning. A grindhouse movie so bad that it guaranteed that his next movie would not be taken seriosuly. And yet look what happened.

@cytorakdemon 2 жыл бұрын
@@iunno585 Except we know what happens when a Terminator completes it's mission from T3. They shut down having finished their purpose. That's how Katherine and the resistance got their Terminator to send back in time. After it killed John in the present, it shut down and they were able to reprogram it. Heck, we learned from T2, the T-800's have blockers in place to prevent them from learning "too quickly" to adapt because Skynet itself didn't trust them. So Dark Fate's dumb plotline where a Terminator kills its target than gets married and lives an ordinary life selling drapes, is proven impossible by two vastly superior films.

@Milner62
@Milner62 3 жыл бұрын
I think it really depends on the location. Lots of cars did have alarms in the 80s, now if we were talking the 60s and 70s then yes alarms would have been quite obscure and not very common. But they still wouldnt have been super common where ever car you came across would have had an alarm but some of them would have. The older cars in the film such as the late 70s cars if they had an alarm they would have had a keyed lock on the driverside front fender either infront of or behind the front wheel. This was how you activated and deactivated the alarm on 70s vehicles.

"Once he kills Sarah, what does he do for the rest of his existence?" They actually answered this question in the TV show "The Sarah Connor Chronicles". The answer is the terminator shuts himself in a warehouse and waits for Skynet to take over, so it doesn't make any more changes to the timeline.
@mnomadvfx
@mnomadvfx 3 жыл бұрын
Which is funny, because the actions of Skynet sending TMNTR's to the past has undoubtedly altered events far beyond the original timeline. Unless the ones sent to the past purposefully pursued the creation and dominance of Skynet there is every chance that their actions could actually cause the very thing they were sent to stop in the first place. All it would take is a handful of people to see it in action and guess what it was to start a revolution against machines in the past which would probably cripple Skynet before it began.

The concept has been redone to death since then but I think this was the first time traveling baby daddy from the future twist. I always thought it had to be weird, and sad, for John Conner to know this was his father and never be able to tell him before he sent him back to save his mom, conceive him and die. I agree with the general consensus T2 is awesome and the terminator in that movie is absolutely terrifying.

Car alarms weren't really a thing in the 80s. The best anti-theft devices we had in the 80s and 90s(when I grew up) were those metal bar things that you put on your steering wheel, AKA: The Club.

Which is weird because The Club is so easy to defeat. Cut the steering wheel with a pocket saw, the Club slips right off. Only in situations where you can brace the floor-mounted gearshift against the floor-mounted handbrake is a Club really in any way effective. Car alarms came along in the early 80's, and proliferated, but they were only an effective deterrent to car theft or break-ins for a short time while they were still a novelty. When everybody and his brother had one, and half the time set them off accidentally because they couldn't wrap their skulls around "disable the alarm first, and *then* open the door," people began ignoring the ubiquitous alarms. Some are so oversensitive they'll alarm when a ground tremor goes by, or a bird lights on the hood, or something similar. When no one responds to an alarm, the alarm is useless. Nowadays, LoJack is a much better option than a Wolf-Crying Machine. No audible alarm, just broadcasts a distress signal to the police along with GPS coordinates.

When I saw this movie in a packed theater when it first came out, there was an interesting reaction. When he's slicing open the arm and working on it, people were freaking out. When he finishes, there was a collective sigh of relief from the audience, like "okay, that was gross, but now it's over." Then he's looking at the eye, and when he reaches for the knife, people totally lost it and were screaming in horror. Well written and filmed scene; most likely intentionally to get that very reaction from an audience.

"Something I never knew I needed to be scared of... a robot torso." Please look up the James Cameron concept art for the Terminator. (The origin story as best I can remember) The robot torso was basically the first visual concept he had for this movie, from a nightmare. Cameron was working on a movie in Rome (not yet a full feature director), and he was quite sick. He woke up from a fever dream about being chased by a robot skeleton, and sketched the idea before going back to sleep.

True. At least, that's what Cameron first claimed. Then Harlan Ellison sued him and the settlement required Cameron to add that weird "Acknowledgement to the works of Harlan Ellison" card at the end. You need to remember at the time, the Cyber-skeleton had to be animated using old claymation/model techniques, which is why there wasn't more of it featured. Even with the most expert motion-technique artists working at the time, it still took an hour of work to make the cyber-robot take a single step, and that's if no mistakes are made in the process. In the sequel, that changes, and you MUST watch it, as it is coined the very first movie to use what is modern CGI techniques instead.

Sci-fi movies do tend to overestimate how quickly artificial intelligence may emerge. In 1968, Kubricks "2001" had full human-level AI in the form of HAL 9000 (who says in the movie that he became operational in 1997). But we may be getting closer. If it is a matter of re-creating human brain function by emulating neurons, our fastest supercomputers should be up to the task during this decade. Futurist Ray Kurzweil has long predicted 2029 as the year we should have human-level AI (and "amusingly", that is also the year the war against the machines culminates in the Terminator franchise).

Came here to say this as well. If cats want to be mean, you'll know it. Plus, they're pretty big cowards anyways: they tend to prefer making a lot of noise instead of outright fighting. Fun fact: my cat doesn't bite, but will start kicking when he enjoys his bellyrubs too much. After which he'll play cute so I'll give him bellyrubs again and so the cycle continues...

@@13bonnie13 The technical term for those scent-marking headbutts is "bunting". A lot of people think cats mark scent by kneading their paws, but this is actually a self-comforting behavior. It's analogous to thumb-sucking in humans, as it is something kittens do to encourage milk production in their mothers. For those who care to know.

I'm pretty sure in the '80s car alarms were only a factory option in high-end models. I believe it wasn't until the 90s where they could be installed as an aftermarket item for an affordable price. Also they probably didn't become a standard item until the late 90s early 2000s for pretty much all vehicles.

Please recognize Lance Hendrickson, playing the cop - he was Bishop in "Aliens", a very nice actor. I also felt the pacing was a little slow the first time I watched this movie, oh so many ages ago. But the second time, I was more in the shoes of the characters more, because I could relax into the plot, and I understood that the build at the start was very important, so that you could get to know everyone, specifically Sarah, where she starts and where she finishes; and you need to get invested in Kyle so that the short relationship really means something and his death can hit you. It's worth watching again.
