Jason and Medea find refuge on the island of Corinth, where they live in peace, but when Jason betrays Medea and marries Glauce, the daughter of King Creon, a terrible end unfolds. Consumed by rage, Medea murders Glauce and her father with poisoned gifts, and to punish Jason, destroys everything he loved, leaving him with nothing.

The reason why Medea isn't punished by the gods or something is because when Jason officially divorced Medea to marry the princess, it's considered as adultery. And the goddess who favored Jason the most was Hera (aka goddess of marriage and she herself hated adultery because of Zeus), and because Jason abandoned Medea, Hera sees it as adultery and basically all other gods in the pantheon sided with Medea on this too. This is why Medea was able to do what she did as normally, the gods would have helped Jason in some way. Bear in mind that when Medea confronted Jason, he also said that it was Aphrodite whi make Medea fall in love with him so their relationship "didn't really count" (this part was not mentioned in the video likely to invoke more sympathy towards Jason.)

I mean TRUEE I didn't know this part of the lore but I kinda agree with you on the last bit. Idk if any of you heard the story Pygmalion, the sculptor that fell in love with his marble creation and so the gods (I believe Aphrodite) pitying turned the stone into human. And the painting of a half human half marble lady being embraced by this guy has had a lot of opinion from the should I say "modern" public. Some saying this is mega creepy others saying bro fell in love with his creation as in beauty in the eye of the beholder etc. But if the gods had a role in forcing their love than this really isn't fare on Jason if Pygmalion gets a different treatment

Different ending of Jason's life than what's usually said. It goes something like this: After Medea goes off, Jason goes walk near where the Argo was beach, by this point the ship is in decay. Then Hera, furious at Jason for breaking his promise to Medea, uses her power to break off a part of the Argo and squashes him.

Jason's death is NOT by his own hands. As years passed after Medea left he became lonely and as one day he went to the Argos which was rusting away on shore, to remember his glory days at sea and as he sat under the shade of the Argos, a peace of rotten wood from the ship fell on his head and brought the hero to his end.

Most people know this version (death by boat), but there are others (like the one told). When it comes to myths, there are many different versions for one story. 😉

@@SeeUinHistory Yes you are correct but the original Hellenic version goes like that. Just like Memnon or Andromeda or Medusa the Romans would reimagine romanticize and rationalize Hellenic myths to bring them closer to there perspective of the world and fit their narratives. For example: Memnon and the Mythical Kingdom of Aethiopia from Hellenic Mythology has nothing to do with Africa nor is he depicted believe or described being a black African character in Hellenic mythology and culture. The Romans believed that he hailed from Africa. Medusas transformation is the Roman version by Minerva. In the original Hellenic source Medusa was born a Gorgon and had a relationship with Poseidon etc. Overall you people are doing a great job bringing these myths back to life.

This ending is just a later version of Jason's end, the original Hellenic version goes differently. But just like Jason's story many others changed especially in the Roman period. Just like Memnon, Andromeda or Medusa the Romans would reimagine romanticize and rationalize Hellenic myths to bring them closer to there perspective of the world and fit their narratives. Connecting Homer's 8th century BC Mythical Kingdom of Aethiopia in the East in Mythology with Herodotus 4th century BC Geographical Term of Aethiopia South of Egypt and Libya in History. Another example: Medusas transformation is the Roman version having to do with the Goddess Minerva. In the original Hellenic source Medusa was born a Gorgon and had a relationship with Poseidon etc. Overall you people are doing a great job bringing these myths back to life. We thank you.

Supposedly Jason when his old age went to the ship the Argo, and as he was sitting underneath the bow it broke off from rot and crushed him to death.

An oathbreaker managed to wind up in the Elysian fields after death??? I thought breaking an oath, an oath of marriage no less, was considered one of the greatest sins in Greek mythology, worthy of a violent death at the claws of the Furies.

Depends. Helen also ended up in the Elysian fields after death (in one version) or immortalised by the gods along with Menelaus (in other versions) despite the fact she broke her oath of marriage. The three judges of the Underworld decide who's going to the Elysian fields and all actions in lifetime count. You are not judged by a single action in your life, but all of them. In the tragedy "Medea", Jason tells Medea that he's marrying the princess of Corinth for their children's good. The children would gain a higher position in Corinth than the one they had as children of immigrants.

Why not? by todays standards every men has the right to divorce his wife. Its not like he went behind her back and have a 3 year long affair and yada yada to finally get caught. No he let her know I wanted a new b**ty to clap and get the throne can you just you know move on? 💀but she being jealous and over reacting. And what's not mentioned here is that the goddess (Aphrodite) had a role in forcing him to fall in love with Medea so he is 100% right to leave her

I liked the version where Jason is sitting among the rotten remains of the Argo and a piece of the helm breaks off and falls on him. Killing him. It really shows how far he has fallen from his glory days.

So in the end, there was no happy ending for Jason after his great adventure with the Argonauts. He cannot keep his earlier promise with Medea. As a result, the vengeful Medea took her revenge and made him paid a terrible price for his unfaithfulness to her.
