I just got through watching the tv show "The Terror" after someone who read the book recommended it to me. I absolutely loved the show (especially the photography of the landscape )and am looking forward to reading the book soon. So glad to find your video to learn more about the book! 🖤🖤🖤

Dan Simmons is a fun author. Try reading "summer of night" or "hyperion"

I'll second people recommending Hyperion by Simmons as well, really good sci-fi with the only negatives being HBO syndrome where it has too many unnecessary sex scenes. Also Blood Meridian is similar in that it takes a specific historical event and makes it terrifying.

Watched the TV adaptation at the start of the year knowing little to nothing about the Franklin expedition. Have been obsessed with the real story ever since and have read as much as I can on it. This also includes Dan Simmons' novel, which is actually superior to the (great) TV show. It's really quite wonderful, it's so richly detailed, evocative, and engrossing. Actually just finished my second reading of the ~750 page thing.

Just found this and it’s a year old , but If you want similar books, Drood, by Simmons is also amazing. Another historical fantasy book, but it revolves around famous author Charles Dickens!

btw Terror is imho an opus magnum from Dan Simmons, I also recommend an Abominable, but this one is really the best one.

I enjoyed the review. I read Drood years back because I am fascinated with Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins' friendship and rivalry, and wanted to see it played out in a historical fiction/horror context . I am thinking about starting this one pretty soon and then going and watching the series.

I read this in November and love it too. I am from Canada as well. I have read some other of Dan Simmons (Children of the Night, Summer of Night & A Winter haunting) and worth a read for sure. Thanks for sharing. Just subscribed #252. Peace love and happiness ~ Tracey

I'd have bought the hardcover copy if it had Crozier's face on it. Aw shucks. Nothing against Franklin but when it comes to Jared Harris I'm biased. Great review btw :)

This is probably the best book I've ever read, was utterly engrossed by it. Super grim in places the supernatural elements added to the tension. Where did you get that hardback from? Seems hard to find.
