Shoaib wasn't just an ordinary fast bowler. Despite being the fastest, it was his aggression coupled with the pace that projected a terrifying image in the mind of the opposition. Add to that his sledging coupled with his big, muscular physique. And then.. the ability to swing the ball both ways, lethal with the old ball and new ball, killer yorkers and bouncers (batsmen hadn't yet fully adopted steel-toed shoes for protection). Multiple stress and fear factors to deal with at the crease. Rare gem.

Balling fast takes so much practice and stress on the whole body but when we look at the number of wickets taken or the number of runs given, it all seems pointless. The only issue with Shoaib was his fitness and consistancy. He was like a machine gun.. He was best used by Wasim as a captain for 3 or 4 overs and then taken off. Making sure that the barrel cools down and the opponent does not get used to the speed. In longer number of overs, he was bit all over the place. The speed did not drop but the balls were flying everywhere via the bat or on their own.

@@humanvoice369 you wrote when you were young, so it means that you're not talking about the present team India I guess. It was probably around 2005-06 you're talking about. And that was a great team. You absolutely cannot belittle them. And fyi, I appreciate the skills of Pak cricketers but I certainly cannot support them, even if we lose by 1000 runs. And winning one tournament rn doesn't make SL great, India has won it 7 times already.

The smoothness of the runup of Brett Lee cannot be beaten. I wonder why no one has ever made that comparison. Brett used to launch missiles with such swift and elegant runup which is baffling to me to date. A true warrior!

Spot on mate. Agreed to every bit of what you have mentioned here. Akhtar was like a loose cannon but Lee was smooth like makkhan. However, I loved to watch both of them bowled, my man is Lee anyday. We can never have bowlers like these dudes in future. Our Bumrah is one heck of a bowler yet not very attractive. We have quite a few bowlers bowling 160 plus yet no one is a sight to behold when bowling like Lee, Shoaib, Wasim, Vaas, Steyn, Waqar, Ambrose and of course Alan Donald and even our very own Zaheer and Srinath who also had smooth bowling actions.

Bret Lee himself bowled at 161.1 or 161.2 kmph. Marginally behind Shoaib. Both are legends. Glad to have watched in their peak era.
