She's just praying for a miracle. Although she won't ever get parole unless she fesses up and shows remorse. Which sucks for people who are actually innocent but it's great otherwise.

My wife and I felt bad and let a pregnant woman rent out our basement apartment, well it wasn’t too long before this guy calling himself her boyfriend started coming over and staying and it was fine at first until the problems began. We were out of town for the weekend and when we came home on Sunday they had trashed our house, there was blood on the walls. As I’m getting my stuff out of the car my neighbor comes up to me and tells me they had to call the police on my roommate because her ‘’boyfriend’’ beat the crap out of her! Plus the loud party they had that lead up to the incident. She gets out of the hospital the next day, tells me she doesn’t want to ever see this guy again and wants us to help get his stuff out of the house. This is when I find his bag that’s filled with broken crack pipe stems ,syringes, and empty bags of crack! Five days later sheriffs department breaks down my front door and serves me paperwork with a warrant for her arrest for jumping bail and not showing up to court six months before she moved in with us! She’s hiding downstairs and refuses to open the door and since I am the homeowner the police need to ask my permission to break down another door, but she finally emerges from the basement! Since then, we have never let anyone rent a room from us unless they provided background checks ,credit checks, and all the other credentials needed. because you have no idea who you’re letting in your house and that was a huge lesson for us.

As someone with a less than stellar credit report, I'm gonna suggest that maybe - well, I guess it would tell you if they've taken out credit, run it up, and never looked back 50 times. Yeah, that would be a red flag I suppose.

@@poutinedream5066 Having bad credit doesn't necessarily make you a bad tenant, it's just a list of precautions that we decided on and it weeds out most people. sometimes people with bad credit just can't make their rent in time so it shows us that they are willing to go along with those requirements and possibly going to be a better pick then someone who doesn't pay their bills on time or already has financial trouble.

It only takes a single irrational juror with a strong political bias to result in a mistrial. In fact, that's nearly always the case of a mistrial, because otherwise they are instructed to continue discussion. A mistrial only occurs when there is a deadlock which absolutely will never change.
@LeeBv9983

Mostly what you get for jurors are people that are on the dumb side. Smart and, especially, wealthy people can always find a way to get out of jury duty. For example, anybody having anything to do with the legal or law enforcement fields are automatically exempt as are those in medical fields. If you have kids under 12, you'll be excused. The reasons just go on and on, and the court never verifies any of this. You're left with -- bozos.

I think it's more likely they felt that she was acting under extreme duress, and therefore shouldn't be found guilty, as opposed to thinking the victim and witness lied. With the level of detail given in this video, it is impossible to say how much of a victim she was or was not. I'd need much more information about the relationship between her and her boyfriend, as well as her own history, to come to a conclusion about that.

Some juries are unbelievably gullible. Maybe the defence lawyer did a rain dance in court and the jurors were putting their hands on their heads out of concern for getting wet. How juries forget about smoking gun evidence and can't even get it right during deliberations is beyond me. I'm sorry, the fact that Heidi left the house and then returned without alerting authorities is enough proof to me that she was an active participant in the crime. She was apparently an active participant and was willing to follow through on all of the crimes that were committed against that poor woman and man who lost his life from a drug fueled POS. I hate that juries tend to disbelieve women of rape when it has clearly been committed against them and the only saving outcome is that she survived physically(possibly) but emotionally she will need a great deal of therapy and unconditional support and love.

"Apparently" isn't fact now is it? As for the rape thing, kinda hard to prove unless there is DNA evidence, even then you have to prove that it wasn't consented in the first place. You can't just go on the words of a woman, that's hearsay in definition. No jury should convict purely on a woman's word alone, there has to be evidence beyond doubt. There are many liars that bring doubt on real victims, that said no man deserves to go to prison for something they didn't do either.

This is why you don’t rent out your home without doing extensive background checks on potential tenants, ESPECIALLY if you have a family with kids living there too. People can be smart and charitable at the same time. Had he took the time to look up her long rap sheet, he may have second guessed his decision in letting her stay. This case was all over the place and doesn’t make much sense but then again not all true crime cases do. There’s too many people involved and too many different things going on but maybe the truth will be revealed in time. I guess the court is trying to decide whether she willingly participated in the crimes with her boyfriend, or whether she really was forced to, as she claims. One of the suspects is dead so they can’t go to him to verify Heidi’s story, they have to rely on her to share what happened and she could be lying to save her own skin, since her partner in crime is not alive to refute or agree with what she says. If the teenage sons were found alive, they should testify too, because they probably witnessed some things as well. Hopefully the evidence, as well as victim/witness testimony, will shed some more light on what actually happened in the house.

@@Sharonmxg We don't know anything about the relationship between her and her boyfriend, or any of her own history. Presumably the jury do know about all that, and it must have been pretty impactful. Some people are incapable of standing up to their abusers, no matter the situation. Seems the jury, or at least some of them, came to the conclusion she was one of those people. It's nice to see some common sense in the comments, instead of instant judgement and hatred.

@@Sharonmxg Well said. But its still pretty crap when there is a victim and a witness who are stating that Heidi was a very willing participant and they arent believed. I especially feel sorry for the victim, to be r.a.p.ed and tortured and then to have your testimony effectively disregarded would be extremely upsetting, as it stands she has no justice for what has happened to her. Fingers crossed the next jury puts more weight towards the victims account, the witnesses account and the fact that Heidi left the house for a period of time but didn't get any help and then later exited the house on police command with possession of the gun/murder weapon.

Good lawyer will paint a picture of acting under duress, show her as a victim. The police and landlord would have confirmed in court she was a victim of domestic abuse too…. Not defending her, obviously I don’t know the case but a good lawyer can do wonders and all they need to do is create doubt.

This is crazy. The fact that a man and his 2 teenage children were in the house and completely unaware that they had a dead body and a woman who had been tied up and tortured under the same roof as them and they were unaware. Completely bizarre. It’s quite likely that Carey and Heidi and were going to kill Cynthia too so they would’ve been waking up to a really awful scene if she hadn’t have escaped (although I guess they did anyway).

So they’re in the middle of having murdered someone and raping and torturing another - and she asks a friend to come help her clean? And then they let her run out the front door? And the man and his children upstairs don’t call the police but he tells his kids to hide? This is why you can’t let a homeless person into your home. You never know how stable they are, or what evil they might bring with them.

What a bat shit crazy case, how on earth did that jury deadlock??? There is no way she is innocent, at one stage she was able to leave the house by herself yet didn't go for help, to me that makes her complicit. Unbelievable. I sincerely hope the lady that was r.a.p.ed and tortured gets all the help, support and love that she needs to recover from this disgusting traumatic event, I also hope that one day she will be able to find love again seeing as her partner was also murdered. Unreal. I hope the teenagers didn't get exposed to what happened in that house and aren't to shook up by the experience with the police and the shooting.
