I went to this show with my teen daughter. Went with the wife to Brooklyn Steel the night before. Took the same daughter to The Inertia Variations screening the night before that, and the whole band showed up. That was a The The weekend to remember!

1984, art school student. My roommate was into a lot of new wave and alt rock that was somewhat new to me, a teenager bound mostly to classic rock. Uncertain Smile BLEW MY MIND! I was already familiar with Jools Holland, and his piano solo may be one of the best ever on that track. The whole album was, and still is, pure gold, and I still spin the LP regularly at home. Finally, after all these years, going to see them for the first time this October in Atlanta!

I too was at the Detroit show - drove in from CLE. Great show. Matt's songs have been apart of my life since I was 18 back in 1988.

Thanks for this! The band sound fantastic. Saw them way back in the 90’s on a cold night at the Reading Festival where they headlined the Saturday. "August and September" and "Uncertain Smile" are still etched in my memory. A unique artist.

Saw Matt and gang at the Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver spring of 1990. One of the top five concerts I’ve seen ever. Super intimate and just pure energy.

I have an imprint of the Toronto concert from ‘89 or ‘90 stamped on my brain. And standing 20 feet from Johnny Marr. It was super great.

Though it must be lovely being able to see them again, that time was their peak. Difficult imagining it being surpassed. That would me my dream concert.

@@galetinm yeah it was pretty much perfect. Fortunately the tour video The The vs The World is an accurate capture of it. Well worth a look.

Actually I got to see all of the smiths individually right after they broke up. Andy rourke and mike joyce toured with sinews o’connor right after. And then morrissey finally toured in ‘91. Marr was the highlight though.
