''The Thing Around your Neck'' group show Lalit Kala Akademi 2017

In the art exhibition, The Thing Around Your Neck five artists, from different parts of India have come together, to showcase their works done in different medias. The works in this exhibition have only one common thread that binds them together, it is that they are female centric. It is an ongoing story of and about women in the context of the Indian society. The title of the exhibition was chosen by drawing an analogy with the Nigerian writer ChimamandaNgoziAdichie’s book The Thing Around Your Neck, for this exhibition, simply because, like her book, this exhibition contains a compilation of different stories. These stories are short, long and to be continued.Each artist has her/his own way of narrating their own story through medias that they are proficient in. The imagery in their artworks carry subtle yet strong anecdotes, that raise philosophical and socio-political questions related to women in the context of Indian society.
