After over a year spent in a slight creative slump in a crumbling terraced house in Tottenham, Jam Baxter rang his label boss while heavily intoxicated to request they fly him to Bangkok forthwith, to rejoin forces with '...so we ate them whole' producer and engineer, Chemo. After an initial period of understandable hesitancy, the flights were booked and Baxter found himself suddenly regurgitated from the belly of a Jet Airliner into the magical and surreal surroundings of ‘Mansion 38’.
'For A Limited Time Only' is the fourth single to be lifted from the forthcoming 'Mansion 38' LP which is dropping on High Focus Records on the 10th of March 2017 on limited edition vinyl, CD, limited edition cassette tape & digital!

As I posted above in the video description (my question was answered): After over a year spent in a slight creative slump in a crumbling terraced house in Tottenham, Jam Baxter rang his label boss while heavily intoxicated to request they fly him to Bangkok forthwith, to rejoin forces with '...so we ate them whole' producer and engineer, Chemo. After an initial period of understandable hesitancy, the flights were booked and Baxter found himself suddenly regurgitated from the belly of a Jet Airliner into the magical and surreal surroundings of ‘Mansion 38’.

Chemo is one of the most underrated producers in the world. His knack of combining strange and interesting sounds into a full on beat is amazing

The best thing about you reacting to Jam Baxter is you haven't even touched the surface or done any of his best songs. You're gonna be mind-blown the more you dig deeper

A theme I take from Baxter's work is one of moral equivalency. In this track, while he's obviously commenting on the nature of advertising, I don't feel he's necessarily condemning it morally. He implies equivalency between the exploitative marketing of consumerism and the pull of drugs and crime, while himself comfortably indulging in the excesses of both. Fantastic Man is another great track themed around fashion which illustrates this. He describes himself as having 'blood diamond iris' and a 'crude oil jacuzzi' and even eating 'wafer thin slices of the last Java gibbon'. He is not a so called 'conscious rapper'. On the contrary it's as if he views himself in a race to the bottom against society's own moral depravity... and he loves the ride. In Eulogy (one of his best tracks imo) he opens with 'I want to be at the table when the swollen world eats itself Grinning as it's licking the grease from its starving continents Carving the word 'Par' in my heart as I pass the condiments' The dire consequences of our reckless, self poisoning civilisation is something many fear, but Baxters lyrics offer the ambivalent, amoral perspective of nature itself: pain and pleasure, both prey and predator. Meanwhile he's just down to 'surf the placenta out of this planet's miscarriage, singing power ballads while I piss acid.' :'D

Love this breakdown, yeah I've never seen Jam as a typically "conscious" rapper, although he's definitely conscious of a lot of things, more so than many! His lyrics and imagery have always resonated with me as somebody who certainly sees the many negatives in society, and care deeply about an inner circle of friends and family, but outside of that can't really bring myself to care about wider issues such as politics and the enviroment and prefer to just focus on living an enjoyable life for me and ensuring those afformentioned few do as well. Jam is an amazing writer, one of the best in my opinion. I love imagery based style and it's certainly an inspiration for my own writing.

I've accidentally stumbled upon this KZbin channel but confess I'm about to rabbit hole it 😂 I'm from the UK and am a massive High Focus fan, I love their view of the world and how they relate that through their music. Listening to your reaction, tells me you've done more than one Jam video and you also see the world as High Focus (and myself) see the world. I guess I'll just leave a comment on every video I watch, so you can track my progress down the rabbit hole 😂

"Be the best" is a slogan the military uses for recruitment on the TV in the UK. He's still talking about the subtle coercion of advertising, the reference point is just very regional. The "enlist now be the best" line is more in reference to how the military sells you a glorified version of war only to abandon you once you're too old.

Man, that was by far my favourite reaction. You pulled apart way more than I was able first time. This album was a slow burner for me when it came out but it's such an incredible piece of work. Glad you've got some more baxter on your list. 'Just Us' from this album is well worth a listen too, dude. 👌 Hope you're well.
