The Thingyan festival in downtown Yangon I Myanmar I 2019 [Repeat for COVID-19 stay home period]

Traditional Thingyan water festival has kicked off in Myanmar's regions and states in full swing. Thingyan water festival will last until April 16 and the new year will fall on April 17, in which Myanmar people decide to turn over a new leaf and leave misfortunes from the old year. Yangon region's water throwing pavilion was unveiled Friday by the chief minister in front of the region's City Hall located in the downtown area of Yangon city. The opening ceremony was followed by the performances by the Myanmar traditional dancer troupes in colorful dresses with Thingyan music. Special celebrations featuring "Walking Thingyan Festival" was also being celebrated by people roaming around the city to receive the water-throwing from pandals where people throw water using hoses. Among Myanmar's 12 seasonal festivals throughout the year, the Thingyan water festival represents the grandest which is believed to bring peace and prosperity to everyone.

We haven’t have thingyan for almost five years I miss the vibes when I was a child and wake up early in the morning and then get on a truck with my cousins and friends and go around the entire city and get sprayed by cold water and fire hose and get home at like nine at night tanner than a blonde…but now thingyan just feel like another day another festival being forgotten with time now people barely comes out of their houses and no one and no where they spray you with water untill you are shivering cold now it’s just gone every year the next generation don’t know how thingyan feels the excitement the chills the cold feeling when cold water is pour on you the feeling of playing with water until night creeps upon the fun and I would always be sad when thingyan is done my only wish is for this country to be peaceful and I want every generation and every ethnicity in Myanmar to experience thingyan -H.M
