These long term reviews are the best, with a great script, pace and editing! The Nano looks to be a fantastic device. Sometimes I wished I needed an Ultrabook. But I have a chunky P72 instead, which is also an excellent Thinkpad. Also had good experience with Lenovo support for replacing the cooling system after 1 fan decided it would not spin anymore

The price for the nano also seems to be cheaper compared to a X1 carbon or other similar devices in that gen which was also a factor.

This is my first laptop in over 10 years. Super light weight, nice keyboard, great track pad. Unless stressed with a video game, it never heats up. In fact, sometimes the fans don't even turn on because it's running so cool. Only complaint is the ports, but I knew what I was getting when I bought it, and the reason it has so few is part of why I bought it (compact.) Funny enough, to I actually had to return my first X1 nano due to a RAM failure. I didn't notice a dip in performance, but it sang the song of critical hardware failure within the first week of owning it after a sudden restart so I accepted it was probably a lemon. My replacement is working strong almost a year later.

Considering that one of the main reasons to get a Thinkpad series laptop in the past has been the durability and robustness, it's not encouraging to see out of the box issues. I'd love to see you make an update video after a few months or years, letting people know how the device fares after the passage of time. Obviously each user treats their devices differently, but the idea of having to treat a laptop like a baby because its fragile, doesn't sit well with the Thinkpad brand in my opinion.

For some light gaming it has an an external GPU (nVidia GTX 660 Ti) connected via a Beast to the ExpressCard slot. All works just fine, but it looks like it won't run the upcoming W11, which is a pity.

I'm late to this model. I just ordered a base model refurbished from the Lenovo Outlet for $856 + taxes. I consider that price to be great for this, so I decided to save money and not wait for the 2nd gen model. I'm a student, so I don't really tax a computer beyond internet browsing, Word, and Tidal. That matte screen with 16:10 aspect ratio is what drew me to this. It should be a nice upgrade from my 7th gen i5 Surface Laptop 1 which is over 4 years old now. I had been looking at the X1 Tablet 3rd gen, but the screen coating issue was something I did not want to risk. Thanks for this useful video! Hopefully I have good luck with my unit.
@SebisRandomTech2 жыл бұрын
That's not a bad price for a refurbished unit! Considering the 2nd Gen Nano won't be offering any drastic improvements (same body, incremental Intel upgrades and I think you can configure it with more RAM but that's about it) over the 1st Gen, getting the older model was probably the smart choice.
@TigersteveTech3 жыл бұрын
Most first-party docking stations have power buttons built in. Lenovo probably moved the power button because they just didn't have enough space on the top of the chassis (they did this with the recent aluminum X1 Yogas with the speakers above the keyboard)

The rest of the lineup going 16:10 is a welcome idea. The T and X series have always been offered with a 768-row option (because muh bulk purchasers), so there'll need to be a 16:10 equivalent of that - who wants to bulk-purchase these newfangled "so high-res you need scaling" panels? So what will it be? 800-row? (gross, and not an upgrade from my X301 even if it is IPS) 900? 1050? I am a student and the laptop I am currently using is perfect I do light tasks on it, mainly Microsoft and internet browsing but the problem I have is the battery time - I would certainly need somewhat of 4-6 hours nonstop running w/o AC plug. I was browsing for a ThinkPad which would be suitable for this task and I saw that x270 seems like a good alternative - easy to carry cuz it's small and has 2 batteries. What would you suggest! I've watched your all older videos of ThinkPad ratings but I would like to know if there have been any changes throughout those 2 years and do you still think the same about the models you said you think are the best. Thank you beforehand! Best Regards, Martin

The X270 wouldn't be a bad option for your needs and price range, plus as you said with the swappable batteries it can last a long time away from an outlet.

I love my nano EXCEPT that the 2242 SSD drive is non-standard. You can't just easily replace it or buy a spare for backup purposes. Lenovo decided to put a freakish one-sided SSD in this (meaning chips on only 1 side) and normal SSDs with chips on both sides will not fit into this laptop. It took nearly 9 months before Lenovo had replacements of these allowing me to order one. I imagine that if my Nano had required repair I would have just been out of luck.

The T14s is going to have better specs, more premium features, and is generally built a little better. It also is available with better screens. The E14 still retains some degree of upgradeability that is lacking on the T14s and is obviously a bit more affordable, but isn't built as well and is pretty lacking on ports. I would also suggest looking into the L14 Gen 2, which has more upgradeability than both and has more features than the E14, while still being a good bit cheaper than the T14s. Hey sebi, do you have any tips on how to restore the functionality of the thinkvantage button? Any replacement software? cause I know that Lenovo removed the thinkvantage software

Lenovo's Vantage software more or less replaced the ThinkVantage software, but otherwise it looks like it's been phased out. I think some people have managed to repurpose the button but that's a bit beyond my area of expertise.

In your opinion is the keyboard easily replaceable for this machine? I can order a replacement keyboard but I would need to disassemble the laptop in order to do it and I'm not sure I'm confident in doing that.

I haven't taken out the keyboard, but it may be easier to replace the entire palmrest/keyboard assembly than just the keyboard itself.

The X1 Nano must be a great laptop indeed! But unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the quality of Lenovo laptops is really lower now, comparing to 10 years ago. See, Sebi had his motherboard replaced. I've got brand new T14gen1 about a year ago and after maybe 3-5 months my motherboard had to be replaced as well. I've purchased my private Ideapad (yeah, that's not a ThinkPad, but still...) and it had a motherboard malfunction as well... In my company we have dozens of ThinkPads and it's sad to hear that some of them had to have their motherboard replaced as well. ThinkPads are known for their reliability, which, in those cases, is rather questionable. Also, there are several leveles of guarantee, sometimes it's neccessary to send the laptop to Lenovo instead of having the fix in our house. That makes it even more tiresome. I've been working on several older ThinkPads, for about 2 years on T530 and I had no issue with it, even though it was several years old. I hope Lenovo gets back on the track with the quality of their stuff asap :/
@SebisRandomTech2 жыл бұрын
The good news is since the motherboard replacement my laptop has been working flawlessly, so I'm hoping that my experience was just a fluke and not reflective of the quality of these machines.
@JanJanuszNosacz2 жыл бұрын
@@SebisRandomTech Well, like I mentioned, my privete experience shows that this case was not unique. I've lost an argument of ThinkPad being a super reliable laptop since so many units had to have thieir motherboards replaced...

That port selection is just not good. I am in tbe market for a new, long-term laptop. I am looking at maybe buying a brand new framework laptop, but thats $1.5k! I understand that thinkpads have a legacy of repairability and upgradability, as well as utility. So i am up for any suggestions! So far im reallt interested in the T480, but the clock speeds are whats keeping me back. I do a little bit of gaming like minecraft and roblox, but mostly, I'll be watching youtube, web browsing, and other simple tasks like document viewing/editing (i am a student, def not going into an engineering field lol so i dont need any power hungry software i dont think)
