The Third Amendment to the US Constitution prohibits the government from quartering soldiers in the homes of citizens. Based on a despised practice of the British government before the American Revolution, this ban on quartering seemed necessary at the time of the Framing, but does it have any relevance to our lives today? In this video, Kim Kutz Elliott discusses the Third Amendment's past, present and future with constitutional scholars Glenn Reynolds and Jay Wexler. To learn more about US Government and Politics, visit Khan Academy at www.khanacademy.org/humanitie... To read more about constitutional law, visit the National Constitution Center’s website: constitutioncenter.org On this site, leading scholars interact and explore the Constitution and its history. For each provision of the Constitution, experts from different political perspectives coauthor interpretive explanations when they agree and write separately when their opinions diverge.

King disarming the people and then having the army move in. - This still happens. Restrictions to the 2nd amendment followed by federal forces in arrests. This was never supposed to happen.

The only amendment that hasn't been broken in Modern times. (It was broken during the Civil War, but not often since then.)

Go to around 2:40 in the video where they describe The Quartering Act. That allowed British troops into inns, ale houses, etc. The 3rd amendment was written essentially to ban the Quartering Act so yes, there is a legal precedent for hotels to be included.

The second Quartering Act did not allow soldiers to be billeted in private homes. In the act itself, it says UNOCCUPIED buildings. The idea that American colonists had British soldiers living in their house is a myth.
