Because in America, politicians are above the law. It's quite common in other countries for politicians to have to resign if they are found to be rorting the system or breaking the law. When was the last time a politician in America had to do that ? An investigation found that 40 plus members of congress had breached laws relating to stock trading, no action taken except for a $200 fine. Four US senators dumped stock holdings after being briefed on the likely impact of Covid 19. they were Senator Richard Burr, a Republican, Kelly Loeffler, a Republican, Senator Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat, Senator James Inhofe, a Republican. That, for anyone in another profession, would constitute insider trading. No action taken. My view is that the ruling elite being above the law is part of the reason Trump was able to win in 2016. People are tired of their tax dollars going to bank bailouts, subsidies for billion dollar corporations, price gouging by big pharma, the wealth inequality etc. No politicians will be charged in relation to January 6th.

Looking at Trump's attitude towards him losing and the overall approval rate (not just Republicans), I don't think he will run again for president. You can see how him losing has affected him and his attitude, and then if he thinks this was to happen twice in a row, and to the same man? I don't think he wants that. That loss will be too much for him. It's up to TRUMP to have to live with that, and I think he's not going to chance his pride and self dignity to lose again.

Insurrection definition: "Organized opposition to authority; a conflict in which one faction tries to wrest control from another." I think it comes down to motive and intent which are very difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. It would be easier and perhaps more just to prosecute the individual acts and some of the best evidence they digitally recorded with their phones - many were impounded for evidence collection. For most, the charges will be individual acts of terrorism.
