While I love the Supremes, and still do, one of the reasons I fell head over heels for the Three Degrees was the very fact they all could sing lead, and did. And, yes, combined, they created one voice: perfect harmony and pitch! A true "vocal" group. The Three Degrees were about all the ladies, and not just one! And, for that reason, among many, I have a high regard for them and their talent! Truly, they were the best female vocal group.......EVER!!!!! :>)

I have to comment again....this performance leaves me tingling and almost speechless. I remember hearing the Three Degrees singing this on the radio many times back in the 70's when music was always classy and very enjoyable. This leaves my heart full tonight....but weighing heavy because this era is in the past. And also because our beautiful, angelic Fayette left us in 2009. God bless the Three Degrees, the current trio and yesterday's trio, for all the truly exquisite entertainment.

That would be Valerie Holiday, whom I might add, still performs with the Three Degrees to this day. The other to ladies are (to Val's right: Sheila Ferguson, who sang with the group for 20 years; and, to Val's left, Fayette Pinkney, the only original member of the group. Sadly she passed away in 2009). This is the Classic line-up of the group as these three ladies are responsible for putting the Degrees on the map of music history).
@Vincent5012 жыл бұрын
I have my favorite female groups, the ORIGINAL Supremes (my queens), The Emotions, The Honey Cone, The Jones Girls, and these three ladies The Three Degrees (this lineup). Too bad they didn't do so big here in the U.S. for they were totally hot but by this time music changed so with Labelle leading the troup of non gowned female groups. Other countries celebrated these ladies and rightfully so. They were just awesome!!!! My kudos to Val for keeping the group going.

@proverbs182412 жыл бұрын
I agree. It's sad they were so under-rated and unappreciated during their heyday; well, at least in the United States. Elsewhere, especially in the U.K. and Japan, and various European countries, they out did even the Supremes. Today, they continue to wow their audiences and Valerie Holiday (the lady in the middle) still performs with the 3 Degrees. Today she is partnered with Helen Scott and Freddie Poole.

It's songs/clips like this that make me realize that I was truly born in the wrong era. Granted I love the 90's Hip-Hop that I grew up listening to, but if you break it down, most 90's Hip-Hop sampled great music such as this. And now-a-days, singers are nowhere near the same calibre as these women. They believe singing with soul means screaming into the mic. But as displayed here, true masters in the art of singing can pierce your soul and do so effortlessly. I wish real music would return.
