Hi Byron, I have recently started working as entry level Traffic Engineer. I really enjoyed watching your videos and the way how your explain a lot of interesting things in traffic. I usually learn something new from your videos. I'm just reaching out to see if there is any possibility to personally connecting with you because I have some questions. Thank you.

Hi Sara. Thank you! Of course. I don’t really have an email for this channel and KZbin doesn’t have private messages, but you can reach me easily through LinkedIn (search for my name) and Twitter (@ByronTangTE). That’s the easiest way. Let me know if either of those options don’t work for you.

Hey Byron! Loved the video, a lot of valuable information :) I’m a senior civil engineering student, I will be graduating in April. Do traffic engineering firms or companies prefer you to pass the FE before you work? Also did you start out as a entry level traffic engineer or did you start out in field work (Inspection or etc)? I’m trying to figure out where I should start looking job wise to be or eventually be working as a traffic/transportation engineer.

Definitely firms and companies prefer that you pass the FE before work, although it is still acceptable to pass the FE shortly after being hired. With it being more competitive, a lot of students are trying to pass their FE while in school so they can have it on their resume. For civil engineering it is more common and necessary to eventually get a PE, so the FE is a big step in getting closer to attaining the PE and a lot of firms want to see that. I started out as an entry level traffic engineer so I feel that it was a little lucky for me to end up in this field. If you want to be a traffic/transportation engineer from the beginning, look to get an internship or entry level job for a firm that works mainly in traffic/transportation or a government agency department of transportation.
