Glenda Jackson is such a fine actress and is up there with the best of them. Down to earth, no bullshit, what you see is what you get. What a rare thing!

Interesting: Jackson & Metcalf. The former taught me at age 12 what real acting is and the latter what happens when an actress is matched with the right role, as in Lady Bird. Wish I could have seen these two brilliant lights in Three Tall Women. And now it’s too late. Au revoir Glenda, and welcome to the big stage in the sky.

I would have killed to have seen that production with those actresses! I had a Theatre professor who got to see Glenda Jackson in the original production of Marat/Sade as Charlotte Cordey and how absolutely brilliant she was.

I was lucky to be in New York at the time and saw this production. It was amazing, such a great play and amazing performances.

Laurie Metcalf will, in the course of her career, become one of the Great actresses of her time. Don't judge her on her Rosanne role, although she is brilliant in that too.

I agree that her stature in the theater is not nearly as well-known as her TV work but she did win three Emmys for Roseanne. She and John Goodman were always considered the two “thespians“ on the show. They are both amazing. Funny, sad...they can do it all.

All the great actresses trained on stage in the theatre. In this interview Glenda and the other actresses, whinge that there is not enough parts for women to play. The problem is that there are not enough women writers and women directors bringing female-led stories to the stage. That's all. The stories are already there, they just need to be translated to theatre-land. The following stories have yet to be brought to the stage: We Need to Talk about Kevin (Lionel Shriver) Big Brother (Lionel Shriver) A Measure of Time (Rosa Guy) I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Maya Angelou) Wild Swans (Jung Chan) Mutant Messages from Down Under (Marlo Morgan) The Secret Gospel of Mary Magdelene (Michele Roberts), The God of Small Things (Arundhati Roy), White Teeth (Zadie Smith), Free (Marsha Hunt) The Sunflower Forest (Torey Hayden), etc. Peace and blessings, Martin H. (Author of MOTHER EARTH. Available on www.amazon.org.uk).

Yeah, what do these three successful, award-winning actresses know - they are obviously wrong to 'whine' that there aren't enough dramatic roles for females! Thank God a man stepped forward to provide a list of novels written by women, which at a stroke proved them completely wrong, SMH. Thanks for the laugh - best bit of arrogant, puffed up and ridiculous 'mansplaining' I've read in a long time!

@@m17434 So do I! But while dumb sexism continues to exist, I hope it will continue to be exposed and mocked.

dont these critics understand that the play writers are telling a story rather than their own and they lived in another time
