@AGENT OF KARMA ⓂFACT: 10 MUSLIM'S INVENTIONS Along with the first university, and even the toothbrush, there are many surprising things that Muslim have invented that have shaped the world in which we live today. The origins of these fundamental ideas and objects are the focus of “1001 Inventions”, a book celebrating the forgotten history of 1,000 years of Muslim heritage. From this book, I have summed up ten outstanding Muslim inventions which we still use today. 🔲1. COFFEE i0.wp.com/mvslim.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/iStock_000008960102Medium.jpg?resize=758%2C505&ssl=1 ◾Coffee More than twelve hundred years ago, hard-working people have fought to stay awake without this stimulant, until a herd of curious goats and their watchful master, an Arab named Khalid, discovered this simple, yet life-changing substance. As his goats grazed on the Ethiopian slopes, he noticed they had become lively and excited after eating a particular berry. Instead of just eating the berries they were taken and boiled to create “al-qahwa”. 🔲2. CLOCKS An ingenious man called al-Jazari from Diyarbakir in South-East Turkey was a pious Muslim and a highly skilled engineer who gave birth to the concept of automatic machines. By 1206, al-Jazari had made numerous clocks of all shapes and sizes. Just as we need time today to structure our lives, so did Muslims over seven hundred years ago. Al-Jazari was sticking to the long Muslim tradition of clock-making. They knew it was important to know the time so it could be used well through doing good deeds: knowing when to pray at the right time each day and announce the call to prayer in mosques. i0.wp.com/mvslim.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Al-jazari_elephant_clock.png?resize=758%2C1188&ssl=1 The elephant clock was a medieval invention by al-Jazari (1136-1206), consisting of a weight powered water clock in the form of an Asian elephant 🔲3. CAMERA Ibn al-Haitham revolutionized optics, taking the subject from one being discussed philosophically to an actual science based on experiments. He rejected the Greek idea that an invisible light emitting from the eye caused sight, and instead rightly stated that vision was caused by light reflecting off an object and entering the eye. i0.wp.com/mvslim.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Schermafbeelding-2015-11-26-om-19.12.51.png?resize=758%2C440&ssl=1 ◾The camera obscura, a precursor to the modern camera By using a dark room with a pinhole on one side and a white sheet on the other, he provided the evidence for his theory. Light came through the hole and projected an inverted image of the objects outside the room on the sheet opposite. He called this the “qamara”. It was the world’s first camera obscura. 🔲4. CLEANLINESS A Muslim’s faith is based on purity and cleanliness, whether it is in its physical or spiritual form. In the Islamic world of the 10th century, the products found in bathroom cabinets and hygiene practices could compete with those we have today. In the 13th century, the same engineer, al-Jazari, wrote a book describing mechanical devices, including “wudhu” machines. This machine was mobile, and it was brought in front of a guest. The guest would then tap the head and water would ensue in eight short bursts, providing enough water for ablution. This method also conserved water. Muslims wanted to be really clean and not just splash themselves with water, so they made soap by mixing oil (usually olive oil) with “al-qali”, a salt-like substance. This was then boiled to achieve the right mix, left to harden and used in the hammams, the bath houses. Al-Kindi also wrote a book on perfumes called “Book of the Chemistry of Perfume and Distillations”. He was best known as a philosopher, but was also a pharmacist, opthalmologist, physicist, mathematician, geographer, astronomer and chemist. His book contained more than a hundred recipes for fragnant oils, salves and aromatic waters. The centruries-old tradition of perfume-making was all made possible by Muslim chemists and their methods of distillation: they distilled plants and flowers and made perfumes and substances for theapeutic pharmacy. 🔲5. UNIVERSITIES The quest for knowledge is close to the heart of Muslims. In the Quran, they are urged to seek knowledge, and to observe and reflect. So Fatima al-Fihri, a devout and pious young woman, wanted to give the Fez community a learning centre. Like some of the grand mosques, al-Qarawiyin in Fez soon developed into a place for religious instruction and political discussion. It gradually extended its education to all subjects, particularly the natural sciences, and so it earned its name as one of the first universities in history. Apart from astronomy, there were studies of the Quran and theology, of law, rhetoric, prose and verse writing, logic, arithmetic, geography and medicine. There were also courses on grammar, Muslim history, and elements of chemistry and mathematics. This variety of topics and the high quality of its teaching drew scholars and students from all over. Still operating almost 1,200 years later, Hassani says he hopes the centre will remind people that learning is at the core of the Islamic tradition and that the story of the al-Firhi sisters will inspire young Muslim women around the world today. 🔲6. FLYING MACHINE i0.wp.com/mvslim.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/abbas-ibn-firnas.jpg?resize=758%2C387&ssl=1 ◾Abbas Ibn Firnas Abbas ibn Firnas was the first person to make a real attempt to construct a flying machine and actually fly. In the 9th century he designed a winged apparatus which roughly resembled a bird costume. In his most famous trial, near Cordoba in Spain, Firnas flew upward for a few moments, before plummeting to the ground and partially breaking his back. His designs would have undoubtedly been an inspiration for the famous Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci some six hundred years later. 🔲7. SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS i0.wp.com/mvslim.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Schermafbeelding-2015-11-26-om-19.13.14.png?resize=758%2C981&ssl=1 ◾al-Zahrawi If we journeyed back into the 10th century, we could look over the shoulder of a cutting-edge Muslim scientist called Abul Qasim Khalaf ibn al-Abbad al-Zahrawi, a man known in the West as Abulcasis. He wrote al-Tadrif, his medical encyclopedia which included a treatise called “On Surgery”. This held a staggering collection of over two hundred surgical tools. Using instruments for surgery was a revolutionary concept because it enabled science to change from being speculative to something experimental. This was the first treatise in the history of medicine to illustrate the use of surgical instruments. In fact, their design was so accurate that they have had only a few changes in a millennium. It were these illustrations that laid the foundations for surgery in Europe. 🔲8. MAPS i0.wp.com/mvslim.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/4dc7f479560a347105918467e8ba4a9f.jpg?w=657&ssl=1 ◾Muhammad al-Idrisi drew a map of the world in Sicily in 1154 and it is said to be one of the most advanced ancient world maps. Maps have helped people find their way for about 3,500 years, the earliest ones being on clay tablets. The introduction of paper was a huge leap forward in the art of map making. Modern technology uses a system of satellites and other receiving devices to compute positions on the earth. Back in history, maps were made from travellers’ and pilgrims’ accounts. The bug of traveling had bitten the 7th century Muslims, and they soon began to leave their homes for trade and for religious reasons, to explore the world they lived in. They walked routes, sometimes simply gathering knowledge about new places, and when they returned they gave accounts of the ways they had trodden and the people and sights they had encountered. First this was by word of mouth, but with the introduction of paper in Baghdad in the 8th century, the first maps and travel guides could be produced. 🔲9. MUSIC i0.wp.com/mvslim.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Al-Kindi.jpg?w=396&ssl=1 ◾Al-Kindi Do 20th century artists and singers know that much of their craft lies in the hands of Muslims from the 9th century? These artists, al-Kindi in particular, used musical notation: the system of writing down music. They also named the notes of a musical scale with syllables instead of letters, called solmization. These syllables make up the basic scale in music today and we are all familiar with doh, ray, me, far, so, la, tee. The Arabic alphabet for these notes is Dal, Ra, Mim, Fa, Sad, Lam, Sin. The phonetic similarity between today’s scale and the Arabic alphabet used in the 9th century is astonishing. On top of that, Muslims were also developing musical instruments. 🔲10. ALGEBRA i0.wp.com/mvslim.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/056f34ae75eff8b260d58a98bebf7365.jpg?w=690&ssl=1 ◾Algebra The word “algebra” comes from the title of a Persian mathematician’s famous 9th century treatise “Kitab al-Jabr Wa l-Mugabala” which roughly translates into “The Book of Reasoning and Balancing”. Al-Khwarizmi introduces the beginnings of the algebra. It’s important to understand just how significant this new idea was. In fact, it was a revolutionary move away from the Greek concept of mathematics, which was essentially based on geometry. The same mathematician, Al-Khwarizmi, was also the first to introduce the concept of raising a number to a power.

@AGENT OF KARMA ⓂFACT: THE OTHER 10 MUSLIM'S INNOVATIONS 1. The idea for our modern checking accounts came from the Arab world. To avoid having to transport money across dangerous terrain, a written vow was honored to pay for goods upon delivery. “In the 9th century, a Muslim businessman could cash a check in China drawn on his bank in Baghdad.” 2. The crank-shaft, one of the most critical mechanical inventions of all time, central to the automobile engine, was created by an ingenious Muslim engineer called al-Jazari. His device could elevate water for irrigation around the year 1200. His Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices documents his inventive uses for valves and pistons, mechanical clocks and the first-ever combination lock. He is called the father of robotics. 3. The Chinese invented gunpowder and fireworks, but Arabs first formulated the chemical process that led to its fitness for military battle. Muslim bombs terrified the Crusaders in the 15th century - both their rockets, and their torpedoes that could blow up ships. 4. The technique of inoculation, the introduction of a pathogen into a living organism to stimulate the production of antibodies, “was not invented by Pasteur” but originated in the Muslim world and was introduced to the European world by an English ambassador’s wife by way of Istanbul in 1724. “Children in Turkey were vaccinated with cowpox to fight the deadly smallpox at least 50 years before the West discovered it“. 5. The style of our numerals (in the west) is Arabic and first appeared in print in the work of Muslim mathematicians around 825. From the Muslim world came algorithms and much of the theory of trigonometry, the word algebra and some of its principles. Modern cryptology owes its basis and discovery of frequency analysis to Al-Kindi. The achievements of Muslim math scholars were imported into Europe 300 years later by the Italian mathematician Fibonacci. 6. The concept of the three-course meal - “soup, followed by fish or meat, then fruit and nuts” was brought to Cordoba in the 9th century from Iraq, Ali ibn Nafi (also known as Ziryab - Blackbird). He also introduced crystal glasses, invented by a Muslim after experiments with rock crystal. 7. Thanks to the advanced medieval weaving techniques in the Muslim world, new dyes from Islamic chemistry and a developed sense of pattern born of the necessity to design without using images of Mohammad in Islamic art. Europe’s floors were unclean and unadorned until Arabian and Persian carpets were introduced. 8. Ahead in Astronomy: 500 years before Galileo, Muslim scholars accepted that the Earth was a sphere. The astronomer Ibn Hazm in the 9th century said “The Sun is always vertical to a particular spot on Earth”, and therein found his proof. He and his colleagues were so accurate in predicting the Earth’s circumference that their calculations turned out to be less than 200 km off. Al-Idrisi brought a globe to the court of King Roger of Sicily in 1139 spreading the ideas westward. 9. Each year, when the Arabian desert dried up, the only way for the people to survive was to perform the backbreaking tasks of drawing water and grinding grain by hand. In 634, a clever Muslim inventor built the first windmill, which tapped on the only source of energy the desert could offer - a wind which blew steadily for months at a time. The first windmills had six or twelve sails covered in fabric or palm leaves. They provided power to draw water for irrigation, and turn mill stones for grinding corn. Europe wouldn’t see its first windmill for another 500 years. 10. Enjoying gardens: Medieval Europe only had gardens for food and herbs until the the Arabs spread the notion that gardens could be places for “beauty and meditation” - the first influence coming to Muslim Spain in the 11th century. Flowers that originated in Muslim gardens include the carnation and the tulip. @AGENT OF KARMA ⓂFACT: DOES THE CHRISTIAN WEST OWE ANYTHING TO THE ISLAMIC EAST? ▪David Self, 21st Century Christianity and 21st Century Islam We are indebted to the Arabic world not only for arithmetic but also for algebra and trigonometry. Logarithms were invented by a mathematician called Al-Khwarizmi in the 7th century. Test tubes, the compass and the first surgical tools were all pioneered by Muslim inventors. A thousand years ago, it is said, Baghdad had 60 hospitals. This scientific flowering was accompanied by the establishment of the first universities - or madrasahs. In a madrasah, the sheik or professor taught, literally, from a chair. He was assisted by readers. When the west eventually replicated such places of learning, we borrowed such terms. The curriculum in a madrassah was wide-ranging. Knowledge embraced not only mathematics, science and medicine but technology and engineering. This pursuit was also faith-driven. In Islam, study and the acquisition of knowledge is an obligation for every male and female: the Prophet is quoted as saying: “Go even to China in pursuit of knowledge.” An open mind and the acquisition of new ideas, are requirements of the faith. 🔲The House of Wisdom: How the Arabs Transformed Western Civilization by Jonathan Lyons The remarkable story of how medieval Arab scholars made dazzling advances in science and philosophy-and of the itinerant Europeans who brought this knowledge back to the West. For centuries following the fall of Rome, western Europe was a benighted backwater, a world of subsistence farming, minimal literacy, and violent conflict. Meanwhile Arab culture was thriving, dazzling those Europeans fortunate enough to catch even a glimpse of the scientific advances coming from Baghdad, Antioch, or the cities of Persia, Central Asia, and Muslim Spain. T here, philosophers, mathematicians, and astronomers were steadily advancing the frontiers of knowledge and revitalizing the works of Plato and Aristotle. In the royal library of Baghdad, known as the House of Wisdom, an army of scholars worked at the behest of the Abbasid caliphs. At a time when the best book collections in Europe held several dozen volumes, the House of Wisdom boasted as many as four hundred thousand. 🔲David Levering Lewis, God’s Crucible: Islam and the Making of Europe, 570-1215 Lewis’s narrative, filled with accounts of some of the greatest battles in world history, reveals how cosmopolitan, Muslim al-Andalus flourished - a beacon of cooperation and tolerance between Islam, Judaism, and Christianity - while proto-Europe, defining itself in opposition to Islam, made virtues out of hereditary aristocracy, religious intolerance, perpetual war, and slavery. 🔲Maria Rosa Menocal, The Ornament of the World: How Muslims, Jews and Christians Created a Culture of Tolerance in Medieval Spain [It] is no exaggeration to say that what we presumptuously call ‘Western’ culture is owed in large measure to the Andalusian enlightenment….This book partly restores to us a world we have lost, a world for which our current monotheistic leaderships do not even feel nostalgia.- 🔲James Johnston, Medieval Script Shows Islam’s Role in Learning The manuscript stands as a uniquely important monument to the central role of Jews and Muslims in the spread of knowledge and learning throughout medieval Europe, as well as being possibly the earliest known example of Latin script of any kind written on paper. Sotheby’s says that only four other copies of this work are known. 🔲Jared Diamond, Guns, Germs, and Steel In the Middle Ages the flow of technology was overwhelmingly from Islam to Europe, rather than from Europe to Islam as it is today. Only around A.D. 1500 did the net direction of flow begin to reverse. - p. 253 🔲“The Adventures of Ibn Battuta: A Muslim Traveler in the 14th Century.” by Ross E. Dunn In it, author Ross E. Dunn, a San Diego State University history professor, tells the story of an amazing, 24-year road trip that took Battuta, a young legal scholar, from Morocco to China in the 1300s. The irony is that I found Dunn’s book and started hankering to see Dar al-Islam’s landmarks at an inopportune time for traveling there. “The Adventures of Ibn Battuta” was first published in 1986 and came out this year in a new, revised edition. It spins a wild but apparently true yarn about a trip that roughly paralleled but in many ways surpassed that of Marco Polo, the Venetian merchant who took to the road a generation before Battuta. Both left books about their wanderings - the “Book of Marco Polo” and Battuta’s “The Rihla.” 🔲According to Wikipedia, From the 11th to 13th centuries, medieval Europe absorbed knowledge from Islamic civilization, which was then at its cultural peak. Of particular importance was the rediscovery of the ancient classic texts, most notably the work of the Greek natural philosopher Aristotle, through retranslations from Arabic. Also of note is the reception of advances in astronomy and mathematics made in the Islamic world during the 10th century, such as the development of the astrolabe. ⬛Following fields are discussed. ▪Classical knowledge ▪Islamic sciences en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_world_contributions_to_Medieval_Europe#Islamic_sciences ▪Alchemy ▪Astronomy and Mathematics ▪Medicine ▪Physics ▪Other works ▪Islamic technology ▪Arts ▪Writing: Western imitations of Arabic script ▪Islamic carpets ▪Music ▪Technology ▪Coinage ▪Literature ▪Philosophy

@AGENT OF KARMA ⓂFACT: HINDU KARMA VS. ISLAM ⬛Description: A brief description of Hindu karma, a concept that is often embraced but misunderstood. The doctrine of reincarnation and the laws of karma are not compatible with Islam. Karma is a Sanskrit word meaning actions or deeds, and a spiritual concept in several Eastern religions, primarily Hinduism and Buddhism. Generally speaking, it is the principle of retributive justice determining a person's state in this life and in his reincarnations. Kar means the physicality of action and ma means producing or creating. Thus, karma is that which is created or produced by one's physical organs. However, karma as a concept does not mean only physical actions, because mental actions also create karma. The concept of karma in the West, which is vastly different and often misunderstood, has developed over the past two centuries. Its popularity can be traced back to the formation of the Theosophical Society. The society modified and introduced Hindu beliefs to the West, but this view of karma is only loosely connected to the Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh or Jain philosophies. In some ways, the concept of karma that was developed in the West resembles the Islamic understanding of righteousness rather than the principles of Hindu karma. This idea of karma has gained enormous popularity and is often expressed in popular phrases such as, ‘what goes around comes around’ and ‘you will reap what you sow.’ Many people express the principles of karma in their everyday lives without realizing that reincarnation is a major doctrine of the laws of karma. Some people deny reincarnation while accepting the idea that positive actions will be rewarded whilst negative ones will be punished. They often view karma as a law of spiritual dynamics related to actions in their daily lives. This definition of karma suggests that actions can influence the future's quality and has become very popular. As mentioned before, some people embrace karma without understanding its relationship to reincarnation and the immutable nature of its laws. Reincarnation refers to recurring rebirths or the transmigration of the soul from one physical body to another. In Hinduism, karma is regarded as a fundamental law that is automatic and mechanical. It is not imposed by God, or a god; it is universal and cannot be interfered with. It is completely impersonal, and it is believed to be wholly just and fair. This karmic law is applicable to all living beings, including plants, animals and microorganisms. Hindu karma tells us that when a person with good deeds dies, he goes to the next world through the path of light and enjoys the heavenly pleasures. When the karma that he had accumulated over his lifetime is exhausted, he returns to the earth to continue his life in a new incarnation. When a person with evil deeds dies, he goes to the dark world along a path of darkness and suffers there until his bad karma is exhausted, after which he returns to the earth reincarnated. Thus the consequence of having lived, what is, in Hinduism, considered a good or a bad life is exhausting karma in a pleasurable way or suffering in darkness. When the soul begins its new life, it is free to begin again, accumulating both good and bad karma and attempting to free itself from the cycle of rebirth. When discussing karma and Islam, it is important to understand that Islam categorically rejects any concept of reincarnation. In Islam, we have one life, with one chance to get it right, and then we experience one death. There is no going back and no moving between species or genders. ◾"Until when death comes to one of them, he says ‘My Lord, send me back, so I may do good in that which I left behind.’ Never! It is only a word he is saying; and behind them (the disbelievers) is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected." [Quran 23:99 & 100] Death is the end of our transitory life in this world and the beginning of our infinite life in the Hereafter. Islam, therefore, requires us to believe in Paradise and Hell. We are born into this life, and then we die; after we are resurrected we will begin a new and everlasting life in the Hereafter. God also explains that if we were to ‘go back and try again’ it would be pointless because we would undoubtedly repeat our mistakes. ◾"But if they were returned to the world, they would certainly revert to that which they were forbidden." [Quran 6:28] Our actions, deeds and beliefs determine our Hereafter, and we have free will to choose how we behave. Thus, our behavior in this world is crucial. In order to guarantee our place in Paradise, a believer must live a good and righteous life. ◾"Whoever acts righteously - whether male or female - and is a true believer, We will surely give them a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e., Paradise in the Hereafter)." [Quran 16:97] While there is no concept of karma in Islam, there is indeed a connection between our deeds and actions and our future, both in this world and in the next. Every person must face the consequences of their actions. But rather than being subject to an immutable law where man is helpless, Islam offers us ways to change our destiny and choose our destination. When we obey God’s laws and instructions we are on a path to a blissful Hereafter. If on the other hand, we choose to disobey God there is always a door open to forgiveness. God will accept our repentance, and He makes it easy for us to turn to Him. He judges all our actions and is the One who determines our ultimate outcome. Islam says that good actions lead to good outcomes and bad actions inevitably lead to bad outcomes. However, we have the chance to wipe out our sins with repentance and good behavior. ◾"…Verily, good deeds wipe out misdeeds (i.e., small sins). That is a reminder for the mindful (those who accept advice)." [Quran 11:114] Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, tells us to fear God and that following a bad deed with a good deed will wipe out the bad deed. He continues his advice by reminding us to have a good attitude and good manners towards others.[1] The concept of karma, due to its undeniable and unbreakable association to reincarnation, is a theory that is not acceptable in Islam. However, karma, as it is incorrectly understood nowadays, is close to the Islamic idea that righteousness is always attainable. A person is strongly encouraged to be morally upright and respectful to everyone and everything on this earth. Islam is a set of guidelines made specifically for humankind by our Creator. ▪Bibliography Castro, J, 2013 What is Karma? @@blackpanthar906 I wonder how humble the mother of Moses (AS) and the Mother of Jesus (AS) has to be. God commanding the mother of Moses(AS) to throw her son to a lake. God commanding the Mother of Jesus (AS) to give birth while no man has touched her. Imagine the pain. But God gave them Patience. And other prophets are also an example for us in Patience. Imagine Noah (AS) giving Dawah for 950 years and really few people followed him. And about Lot (AS) those people’s Country was placed upside down because of their sins. And about Job (AS) in Islam Ayyub (AS) he was tested by god for 18 years. He was the most patience of them all. And about the Prophet Muhammad(SAW). The pegans forcing him to leave his own home. More over tried to kill him. But God protected him… Peace and blessings be upon all of them.

Agent of Karma, so you don't like the company of beautiful women in paradise which is only one kind of rewards there are others. You want to tell us you are pure and want nothing of that. Then we see in the headline news, politicians, gurus, even politicians risk their position just to have sx sometimes even only few kisses with their workers or church goers! They risk their positions and lose their job every week! The church is on the news of these scandals every week.. IF we know that Imagine the one who create you know how hypocrite you are. I know you are paid changing your nicknames often, but I answer regardless. Did you read the reasoning I just said? if you have an atom weigh of faith, you will get shiver because it is true. may Allah guide you, amin.
