eurylochus knew the second zeus started portraying penelope he was never going to make it home. he just wanted confirmation from his captain, king, and brother in law 😭

ahahahah i love ranting about this! aeolus knew from the start odysseus wouldn’t be able to keep the wind bag closed, with his crew starting to lose trust in him after the cyclops. i would too if he openly goes and doxxed them. but thinking about this from the perspective of the crew, would you listen the winions, who are little creatures from the wind god, or your mortal captain and king who let his men diesurely from that perspective it makes sense why they opened the bag which killed everyone in return. the situations from circe’s is so much different from scyllas when it comes to men; eurylochus wanted to leave knowing that dealing with the losses wouldn’t be as bad, since they technically never died. (he never knew the implication that circe would eat them). scylla, however, he’s upset that his captain would deliberately sacrifice six of his crew just to make it home. in this version, nobody but odysseus knew that scylla was feared by posideon. it’ll go back to the cyclops and why posideon was upset to begin with. posideon was upset that odysseus blinded his son because it’s shameful at the time to survive and loose a fight that die trying, just like eurylochus would rather have everyone die fighting scylla, knowing they were trying to survive than being massacred with no instructions but to row. this can imply that odysseus isn’t the only one who started listening to posideon! i mean it’s really just a mix of odysseus’s and the crews fault for most of them to never make it home. yes odysseus should’ve never revealed his name and listened to athena, and his crew should’ve listened and not act on their loosing trust. it’ll be unfair to put the deaths of all 600 men on anyone but the captain, however it’s his job and responsibility that everyone makes it back alive. :)) (this is purely based off the musical and whatever storms going on in my head 😭)
