If you are going through loss or grief of some kind - I send you my love. And I really recommend reading the poem "For grief" by John O'Donohue, it helped me a lot

We grieve but, no one is lost forever. Once you know that, it makes you realize that the departed has moved on to better times. They were suffering in the body, and now they have been released,, you will meet again. We grieve when friends immigrate to faraway places but, few consider it a death. Perhaps it's a matter of perspective. I have found it helpful. Love T.

When a loss is out of time, someone young, it has left me feeling empty, robbed of a future that could have been. That I knew I would miss for years to come. Lossing my nephew at 23 was beyond understanding. Although he took his life, it leaves a void unlike any other death. At 78 years old, we have lost more loved ones and friends than we would have wished. But life, as you know gives some really hard blows. I pray that in your grief you can have moments of wonderful memories that hold your heart in love and not just the loss. What we focus on helps us to not be destroyed or lost in the pain. Finding joy in the good things about that one, remembering is the only healing way thru. Love, Glenda

Loving & caring thoughts to both you and Bendik. Thank you for sharing the poem by John O'Donohue and your loving video that will help others understand the process of grieving. Today I am 74 and lost my youngest brother 33 years ago. He came to me in a dream once - standing next to a white tree filled with ice - much like the ones in your video. He told me he was okay and not to worry. I still see him in my mind and feel his presence in my heart. The ones we've lost are physically gone - but they will always be in our hearts and minds. My heartfelt sympathies go out to you both.

You read the beautiful poem thinking some of us out here might benefit from it, might be experiencing loss, too. I am one of those people. I lost both my mom and a dear friend last year, and my best friend the year before. My heart is still grieving and the poem so perfectly expressed where I am in that journey as well as your own wonderful words. Thank you for posting this. My heart goes out to you and Bendick in your sorrow and your loss.

Oh Maria, this was so beautiful. It left me in tears for you and all of us. Loss, grief it is part of our living, it’s dark and lonely and confusing and I just don’t know why pain needs to be part of our existence. But what I do know is that woven in with this intense pain of loss there are small moments of magic and beauty. I would encourage you to keep your eyes and heart open to this magical time and gifts surrounding death( I don’t have a better word than magic). Maybe what I’m saying doesn’t make sense now, maybe it never will. But I’m so glad someone told me to stay alert during this special and intense time. It helped me realize the sacredness of our journey(again, maybe there’s a better word). I’ve come accept that to stand with love ones in life and death is an honor and an honor that scars. Wear the scars, find strength in the scars, they reminds us of our love, our loss, our strength, our weakness, our humanity. Wishing you strength and magical moments during this intense time of grief. 💔

Maria and Bendick, sorry to hear about your loss of a loved one of you... So sad to hear a young person left this world... Last year i lost three family members within three months, so i recognize your feeling of emptiness and the way words lack the power to describe your feelings. My condolences to both of you,,, In stark contrast to the aforementioned, I am happy that the both of you can retell the car accident without any injuries. Stay strong, take time to process both incidents and give them a peaceful place in your heart.

A friend lost her husband of 47 years just before Thanksgiving. Here are her thoughts... The video is haunting. So starkly beautiful and sad. And the poem is so beautifully written - I listened to it twice, and will probably listen to it many more times. It resonates very much with the ups and downs and the moments that you are “ ambushed by grief”. There is so much truth in the poets thoughts about this experience. The regrets, the anger, the sadness, the moments we relive of the good and bad times… it’s like a reel in my head of memories. It’s exhausting sometimes, and the business and the distraction of the holidays is over, and there is nothing more now to do but just let it happen.

It has been 2 years. It sometimes seems like she has been away on a very long trip. In a way, it's true. I guess I have learned to accept it's the way it is and sometimes I cry, not as often. I just rewatched your video of the trip to Hammerfest and other northern villages. Breathtaking. Sometime during the last year of her illness, Mellie read about some guy, can't remember his name but think he was a Norwegian veterinarian who believed that demons are responsible for our illness and he had a way? of communicating with them. She had this dream (delusion) of sailing to Norway to meet him and cure her illness? In reality, she became too ill to travel very far. I knit her a small gnome which she kept with her at all times and I believe was cremated with her body. I stuffed a small, smooth, heart shaped beachrock into it. It's very stormy here today in Maine. We've had 3 bad storms in 3 weeks. Roads washing out, wharves and small buildings floating away, power outages. I taught kindergarten for 25 years with a huge break inbetween after first 5 years. Mellie and I were supposed to do things together when I retired. She died in January and I retired the following June. She was a gardener by career. Now I work with plants during the growing season, basically watering and weeding them to earn some $. I was surprised the yarrow you and Bendik picked was so green. Mine was pretty dead looking at the time you made that video, I think. Didn't mean to write a book. Love and peace.

It is very hard, but just be as you have to be, respect your energy even if it is low and sad. I send you a very warm hug Maria ❤️ I don't really know what to say... Thank you so much for sharing and being real ❤ When you lose someone it's often times easier to watch others live their normal happy lives and try to fit in or forget the things that have happened because it seems easier that way. But sometimes it really helps to hear someone go through a similar experience and not feel so alone in this. I really needed to see something authentic. Because loss is a part of life and we all have to experience it sooner or later. Thank you again and wishing you and Bendik a lot of strength and sending love!

I was wondering if you and Bendik are OK, watching your previous videos, and here's the answer. Yes, there's always before and after when grief is present and words don't come easy. I think it's especially very hard to deal with the loss and other hardships after so much touring and teaching. Thank you for this beautiful video. My most heartfelt condolences. My aunt passed away just a week ago and I'm almost shocked, 'cause we had a complex relationship. And it feels like the winter and this freezing cold (we also had minus 20 here) resonates perfectly with the loss, although I usually have brighter associations with this time of year. Hope you manage somehow and you don't forget to be kind to yourself.

Hello from the UK. The poem was so poignant Maria, thank you. I lost my husband Terry on the 4th December after a short and painful illness. Too quick and to soon. He was my love, my life and my soul mate and my heart is broken 💔. We were together for 50 plus years and the grief is unbearable right now, so I completely understand your loss. Oh Maria, I don't think a KZbin video has made me cry before. It is so difficult to lose someone young, and when you are young yourself it really takes a piece out of your soul. It is so hard to believe what has happened, and it is so final, and it really does make you feel like life is upside down. As Queen Elizabeth said when Princess Diana died "Grief is the price we pay for love." We humans are made to love, we can be at our best when we love, and we have a very deep human experience when we lose someone close. I think it makes us more human too, to feel so deeply. I sense in this video your cat knew that YOU needed attention and TLC. I know you were very tired after all the long touring, and obviously you were away in Bergen for Christmas. And on top of it to be in a car accident. You and Bendik may be okay, but as someone who has done massage for decades I know that the memory lodges in your tissues, so if you can, get a massage or two to help release the shock from your body. And perhaps it will ease your entire being at this sad time too. Yes, the car is just a "thing", but that is a loss, too, on another level. I am sending you a big warm hug, my heart is with you at this really difficult time. And may your heart know what a blessing it was to have someone in your life who you loved so well so as to mourn so deeply. Much love to you.

@Mariaandtheforest Excellent that your mom gave you a massage. You may beed more than one - but is she in Bergen? I'm assuming that is fairly far from you, but I don't know why I'm thinking so. All I know is you are somewhere in the south. Give yourself lots of mental and energetic space. From my experience it takes about a year for that sharp sense of shock and disbelief to soften its edges, and begin to shift to acceptance. (My best friend from high school committed suicide when we were 39, and she left 4 kids ages 2 to 10.) Do lots of self care. I find journalling my feelings helps get them out of my head. If you have heard of the book "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron, she recommends "Morning Pages" - 3 pages of stream-of-consciousness writing, by hand, every morning before you do anything. I try to do this every day (I've done it off and on for 30 years), and a day started with Morning Pages is always a better day. Somehow my mind becomes clearer, and I am able to let go of the previous day's energy, and start this day fresh and open. Just let yourself feel what you are feeling. I do think you are doing that. Sending healing hugs, and always much love. As I think you know, I feel a special connection with you, and I love the connection you give me with Norway, too. 💞

I’m really sorry for your loss 😢 Unfortunately we don’t know when it’s time for us to leave. I hope you had the chance to say goodbye. I believe there will be a day we will see our beloved ones again. More and more scientists are sure that there is more than we think. The best you can is to remember this person a while life and to live for this person too. Make as much food memories as you can to tell the loved one at the end of your journey what you experienced 🙏❤️ It’s totally okay to grief, to cry and to be angry. But don’t forget the good moments. Think about what this person teaches you and spread the love, the friendships and the laughter. Sometimes it helps to write a good by letter, to express the grief in words and to say what you always wanted to say to this person. I can be a relief. Lots of love 🙏

Oh Maria, you really haven't been having a great time lately you poor thing, but thank God you both survived the car crash unscathed at least. The loss of a young life is hard to bear, and difficult to understand or accept, yet the memories of them will live on in you all forever. These moments are punctuation marks in all our lives, dividing one chapter from the next, so take as much time as you need, and return to editing videos only when it feels right. Hi Maria and Bendink, my name is Mike, I'm from the west Midlands in UK. it's so strange me writing to you both. First of all, I'm so sorry for your loss, especially around Christmas time. I lost my wife on the 27th December 2020. We found out on Christmas day that she had cancer, and she passed away 2 days later. Ever since then I have truly been lost and until we are back together i believe i always will be, however I only just come across your videos on KZbin and have been watching you for the last week none stop. It's so strange to say that I have not watched any films or videos with couples in as its hard to see others having what I have lost with the passing of my wife Teresa. But you to have make me smile so much, and be happy that love still is out there living and showing the hole world that you love your country and eachother. Again it's so hard to know that I'm not the only one that sadly lost someone we love at Christmas x. I know from this video it's been 7 months since you lost your friend. I only started viewing you videos less then a week ago as i would of passed on my condolences to you all, its really strange for someone that you do not know saying all off this . I think I have watched most of them now. Please don't ever change and keep the love for your friend close to your heart and eachother ❤ please keep your beautiful out look on life. X

So sorry for your loss Maria. I lost my mother this past year and know of what you speak. Thank you for sharing your feelings and thoughts along with Mr. O'Donohue's poem, which exquisitely described the painful emotions of grieving while also providing words of comfort. Blessings to you and yours. ❤‍🩹

🙏🏻💕🙏🏻 a heartfelt hug for you and Bendik. Grief is a very difficult thing, something that takes time, and courage to look it in the eye, to allow yourself to grief and feel all the feelings that belong to this loss. ❤ thank you for sharing with us, for being so open and honest. 😊

And then we see the power of poetry and poets when it is unimaginable and impossible for us to find any words. Thanks for reading John O'Donohue's poem. Sending you peacefulness and relief from the South West of France.

I sincerely and deeply sympathize. As someone who has also lost a loved one cause of cancer, I know how painful it can be. But yes, grief will pass and peace will come.

It is a part of your life and it will affect you for a long long time. Sending hugs to you both. Grief is so different for each person--but taking it gentle and slow and just remembering that beautiful life and being grateful for what we have--that helps so much.

Hi Maria--So sorry for your loss. Sending you and Bendik lots of healing thoughts and hugs. John O'Donahue's poem "For Grief", really captures the process of grief and how "sorrow will remain faithful to itself. More than you, it knows the way"...Take good care. Jenny USA 🐦☮❤

@@KeithPetterson-f3wthat is so kind of you, but I can not accept such an offer ❤. We have found a solution for the car now so I have good hopes that it will be repaired within a price we can manage. Thank you so so much for your kindness and wanting to help ❤
