I have watched caving videos on and off for the past couple years, and recently found myself exploring the depths of your channel. Since I was very young, I've had no aversion to cramped, dark spaces and in fact I developed quite the opposite, a tendency to enjoy them. Many times in my I.T. career I've had to crawl through dirt-filled, ancient basements to run cables, or weave my way around nails while crawling across beams in dusty attics, and the thrill of it is something akin to what you experience, at least I imagine. My question to you is how would someone get started in a caving hobby? I'm living in the city and there isn't exactly a plethora of natural formations where caves might form. I appreciate your informative spin on caving videos and your safety tips. I think many watch purely for the thrill, but some of us might find ourselves seeking those same situations some day!

If one is serious about caving, there are 2 very distinct worlds. One where people know about caves and one where people don't. And crossing over that line is a very specific, challenging thing to do. Even if someone wants to do it it cannot always be done. The caving world is a private world. You can search the Internet for public caves. There are usually several of them brought them for each area. You can also go on Google maps and search for caves. There are also apps which show caves and mines. And that's sufficient for most people. But if you really really want to make caving a part of your lifestyle, you're going to have to join a caving group. Finding them and joining them is a matter of difficulty and persistence. But there is little other way to successfully locate and explore caves. These groups are the keepers of cave locations is and maps. And I find most of them to be full of fairly grumpy individuals. Caves are a sensitive environment and they don't really want to share the information. But the information exists and it can be found. * This is not the path we took. We were born into a family of cavers so I don't know what it's like to suddenly decide to go caving. The darkness is not for everyone. And in our area, the caves are also freezing. So it can be rather unpleasant, even if the caves are interesting.

Footage of this makes me feel ill but it's fascinating at the same time. I'm curious, what is the game plan for squeezing through there? Is the squeeze usually short, like what does Jacob do if there isn't a large enough space to turn around?

There's a little trick. If you're the first in there, leave a little stack of rocks. That way the next person knows they weren't first. I'm afraid Jacob's little stack of rocks will never be seen by another human. He was that perfect combination of old enough to go caving and young enough to be small. Current Jacob is over 6 ft

Thank you so much and welcome to the dark frontier. There was a whole series of videos that led to this point.
