I was in Iraq with the 1/125 located in Scania. I remember an SF Sgt Maj was killed near our AO..... Scania was where we spent that deployment. I can't remember what year that happened, but I want to say it was early 07, but maybe late 06. Thank you for doing this fellas, this crap has been going on for too long with Walz.

The oddest thing is that he served as CSM for 45 days. I can't wrap my head around holding that position for that amount of time (at most 4 days with that rank on uniform) and still putting that on your resume. Guard guy here, 100% dodging the deployment. Gotta understand, when the first real round of guard deployments came down in 2005ish, there were a shit ton of senior guys that had spent 20 years doing nothing, had no idea how to do their jobs and popped smoke. He was honestly one of many that retired immediately or found something else to do. They were not real senior NCOs or Officers, they had never commanded anything and deploying scared the shit out of them. They are a part of what we call the “old Guard”. Basically, do nothing, know nothing and get a small check for it every month, playing soldier. Mass exodus of 80s and 90s guys is what happened when the deployments started for the guard. 2000 - 2020 guard guy here.

@afs6596 I'm at a loss as to why the anger directed at my comment . I never mentioned the Guard being " professional soldiers " nor the distinctions of AD vs NG . Nor have I ever equated 24 years of Guard time compared to AD time. I was never a Nasty Girl , my little brother was . My entire time consisted of Active Duty . I don't equate serving less than 1,500 days ( typical Guard time over 24 years ) to even being equal to a 4 year initial enlistment on active duty which runs out to around 1,460 days time in service . So relax high speed.

My father served 8 years in the army and the rest of his career in the ANG retiring as E-7. He was never called into a conflict until he was in his 50's in Desert Storm and nothing made him more proud to serve in that conflict. I have never heard him mention his service whatsoever unless specifically asked if he ever served and only mentioned Desert Storm if he was asked if he was ever deployed into a conflict. And I can tell you that several times when borrowing his vehicle with veteran plates and someone thanked me for my service I made sure to tell them that was not me but my father and I will gladly pass on their regards to him. I never went into the military but have the highest respect for them. Walz knew what he was doing and should have known much better than imply he served in combat. The fact that that didn't automatically take him out of consideration for VP is such a slap in the face to those who served in conflict. I'm sure many veterans may not care and I respect that, I am not trying to clutch pearls for them, but myself I don't need to hear anymore about Walz, he is a valor stealing loser in mine and many others eyes. A stolen valor accusation is very dangerous in my opinion because we’re fracturing the veteran community into bickering tribes etc. Donald Trump dodged the Vietnam multiple times…yet these guys will sit there and parse words. JD Vance was a combat photographer. I earned my CMB in OIF 2005 and did a 6-month peacekeeping mission in 1999. I don’t discredit Vance’s DD214 because he served and was discharged honorably. I could have gotten out after my first enlistment without going, (02-06), because it was just the luck of my draw. I re-enlisted for 2 more years (06-08), raised my hand for orders to the next combat deployment, and then volunteered for flight duty as an aerial gunner in helos, which is what I ended up doing a lot of in Iraq. I joined shortly after 9/11 to fight and personally would not have wanted to get out and move on with my life, when a lot of my guys did their time down range. That’s just my personal belief. I equate that time with terms like “surge”, “stop loss”. You want to get real dark, anyone else remember the terms “death squad” or “sectarian violence”? I worked with them as they held responsibility for the few villages around VBC. Walz was a known shitbag. And everyone talked about how he bailed to go into politics and they were pissed because they received guidance that due to their activated status, they were not allowed to individually take part in any political activity against him. I didn’t even remember this until his first run for governor when the Star Tribune took some heat from not covering some of his fellow now retired battalion members that were writing opeds against him. 05-06 cycle was intense, I was an active duty USAF E-5 fobbit (dude who didn't go outside the wire) communications technician at the time, but we took 50+ a month of indirect fire attacks that were mostly rockets but had some morters and VBIEDs. We did take small arms with us, but we had them locked in the UCC. I was there and technically took weapons, but I wouldn't claim I carried weapons into war or fought in the way that guy claims to have. Words have meaning. I served 20 years, did two deployments into the AOR for OIF, dozens of other missions not in theater supporting OIF, OEF, GWOT, and nuclear assurance and deterrence, and retired honorably as a E-7. My personal belief is that this man has no honor and only used the National Guard for personal gain. I don't see how someone can prepare oneself and the men and women under them in the profession of arms for 24 years for combat and leave right after finding out that they are finally going into theater. As the acting Command Sergeant Major, he was in the loop and knew the deployment dates just as much as he knew he had years and traning to get through to retire at that rank. He brings great shame to his service and to all of us who executed the mission without him. It will be a sad day for us if this person is elected into being a breath away from being CNC. His "leadership" would endanger us all and be a threat to national security. Supporting the troops means a vote against him.

Whether the dude deliberately dodged combat or not, his narrative has been more than just a slap to veterans who went to war. It’s also a slap to those of us who never had to go to war. It’s like saying that our service was bullshit because we weren’t in combat, so we have to embellish it and outright lie about it if we want to have any kind of pride for our service. I’m not okay with that. Like any rational and sane human being - including those who went into combat - I never wanted to be in that kind of danger where I had to kill to survive. Andy, you are a critical thinker, thoughtful individual and a true professional. I'm a veteran with three decades of service and an apolitical operator, and the only interest I have is that we remain a democracy. Yes, Governor Walz's statement at a political gathering about carrying a weapon in war wasn’t factual, it was misleading but does that single statement grant other veterans or civilians that have never served a single day in their life in defense our democracy, or for those individuals, who have received five (5) medical deferments for a bone spur diagnosis have the right to question Walz’s loyally to this country. Moreover, does that same individual who received those deferments have the right to disparage the sacrifices of service members like Sergeant La David Johnson, who was killed along with 3 other Green Berets on October 4, 2017, when this individual told Sergeant Johnson’s widow that he knew what he was getting himself into. And so many others like USMC General John Kelly, his son, a Marine infantry officer was killed in Afghanistan, or Ghazala Khan, other gold star family that loss their son in Iraq. When a sitting president refuses to visit the American cemetery in France, called the those service members “losers” and “sucker,’ which was first reported by the Atlantic and confirmed by The Associated Press. As for stolen valor, let's discuss Navy Captain O-6 (Retired) Ronny Jackson, who actually retired as a rear admiral but was demote after retirement after the DOD inspector general sustained allegations of serious misconduct while he served the White House as the president's physician. Now Congressman Jackson still identifies himself as a retired rear admiral from the navy. Folks, Walz was a E-9 CSM, he served in that role until he retired, but actually retired as an E-8 Master Sergeant because he didn't hold the E-9 rank for three years and did not complete the required educational requirement. This nation is facing critical issues, yet folks want to talk about Walz's weapons comment and if he was an E-9 CSM, who cares! Perhaps, focus on veterans issues, I suggest you read Project 2025, 920 page manifesto on how to limit the rights of American citizens that are not aligned with the Christian nationalism movement, look military section and the impact on veterans. benefits. I read the entire manifesto and I'm not going to comply with that nonsense. Yes, the 2nd Amendment is important because of Christian nationalism movement that threats America's way of life.

I'm a reserve (actually deployed right now, and deployed in the National Guard before) and 100% agree with this. He intentionally oversold his qualifications and it's more likely than not he ducked out on his deployment. In the guard you get a notification of sourcing (NOS) a year out from a deployment, but you know far in advance that you're on a ribbon chart to go. The NOS makes it official. And I couldn't imagine serving for 24 years, being a senior leader, and passing up the opportunity to go with your team - especially when you haven't deployed to a combat zone before. I wouldn't call this "stolen valor," just poor judgment for political gain. As far as potentially ducking on the deployment, that's on him to account for. @@itsAmeOFP Trump won't get us into ww3 like kamala and he wants to give the option for everyone who was wrongfully kicked out of the military for refusing the vax, to get back in with back pay.

Trump won’t drag us into ww3. He wants to give service members who were kicked out of the military for not taking the vax the option to get back in AND get back pay. He’s easily the best option for the country.
