Science of the flight times: jet stream. When you fly from LA to New York you're flying WITH the jet stream and when you're flying black you're flying against the jet stream :)

Basically when you are flying to CA to NY it is like something is pushing it to make it go faster. And going the other way it is like something is trying to drag is the opposite way.

When flying east planes can go with the jet stream that helps carry the plane more quickly but going west the plane flies against the jet stream so it slows the plane down and it takes longer.

The time difference usually has to do with wind. if you against the wind it will slow the plane down significantly. i took a flight to nova scotia, 49 mins there and 1 hour and 20 mins home lol
