8 ай бұрын

A Victorian scientist and inventor creates a machine for propelling himself through time, and voyages to the year AD 802701, where he discovers a race of humanoids called the Eloi.
Their gently indolent way of life, set in a decaying cityscape, leads thescientist to believe that they are the remnants of a once great civilization.
He is forced to revise this assessment when he comes across the cave dwellings of threatening apelike creatures known as Morlocks, whose dark underground world he must explore to discover the terrible secrets of this fractured society, and the means of getting back to his own time.
A biting critique of class and social equality as well as an innovative and much imitated piece of science fiction which introduced the idea of time travel into the popular consciousness, The Time Machine is a profound and extraordinarily prescient novel.

I spent lots of time with my grandma. My mother was a single parent. Every time we went to bed, I'd say "Grandma, tell me a story." As she was a beautiful person, she always obliged me. Storytelling is a gift. You sir, have it. ❤🙏

One of my very favourite stories. Still leaves me wondering. 138 years on and still modern. Great reading. I am still wondering where the time traveller went. No doubt if he stopped at 2023 he would quickly move on.

One of my absolute favorite stories. I read this when I was a kid; and I became a fan of H.G. Wells as a result. Ended up reading War Of The Worlds, Island Of Dr. Moreau, and The Invisible Man later on. 😍🙂😁

One of my favourite authors, and from my favourite narrator. Your performance is extraordinary, and brings the story to life with such currency. Somehow you give this story an immediacy that can be all too often overlooked.

We love you (and your work Tony!) I watched a movie called the haunting from the 60s but black and white and I recognised it from you reading hill house and of course your version was much more entertaining and detailed but with V Necessary detail! But the bit where she thinks her friend is holding her hand was bloody TERRIFYING ( 🙈who the hell was??!!😱) lol 😂 And actually I like older horror movies because it’s quietness (rather than scary music all over it) and lack of cgi (hope that’s correct) was a very good advertisement for other movies from then and the 70s!! Thank you so much for this! ‼️ ♥️🌟🧡🍁✨👑✨🍁🧡🌟♥️

I am an hour in and there is so much information coming at me to think about. With a story like this, I have to pause every hour and spend a couple of hours (while doing my normal tasks) to just think about what has been written....

Dear Sir, I've only just found your channel by way of the KZbin algorithm and all its wonders. I found it by way of your narration of Dracula. I wish to covey to you my sincere thanks and wonder at your abilities. Your narrations of these stories are incredible! My daughter, aged nearly 12, read H.G. Wells' Time Machine for a school project last year. I (and her teacher) told her at the first that she may have some trouble with it, as Victorian Era writing is, well, "flowery" compared to today's way. She ended up using a narrated version she found on KZbin to read along to for some chapters. IF ONLY YOURS WERE AVAILABLE then!! I can say that this book made her fall in love with science fiction, just as I did, all those many years ago. I can't WAIT for her to hear your version! Thank you SO much for your hard work, and excellent channel. I unfortunately don't get as much time to read as I once did, so I listen to audio books. You are far and away, one of the best I've heard. Thank you again! Signed, A new fan in America.

I thought that Space-Time was first postulated by Minkowski in 1908? I guess the time traveller must have bought it back to 1895 in time for Wells to write the story 😵‍💫
