Heard a great story that at one theater the seats for "Tingler" were wired while "The Nun's Story" was still playing, resulting in a group of unsuspecting, proper ladies at a "Story" matinee getting more to buzz about than the film.

William Castle is an absolute treasure. It's crazy to think that the same guy who made The Tingler and House on Haunted Hill went to on produce Rosemary's Baby.

it was awesome to see another Castle film on here. Any movie with Vincent Price is delightful. And man, that Tingler is actually kinda creepy when you see it. I mean, it's obviously a puppet, but it looks like a centipede and I have a raging phobia of centipedes, so....

LOVE THE TINGLER!!! As a teenager, I would introduce this film to friends and family and recreated the William Castle gimmick by watching said film in the dark and wave a large lobster toy affront of their faces during the theater attack sequences! Worked every time!

I love this film! And as far as the fatherly advice about monsters, a friend of my had a great idea. They are Dr. Who fans and gave their child a sonic screwdriver to "scan" the room and remove all the monsters. It's awesome.

Thank you for calling Gremlins a Christmas movie, Matt! I've gotten into countless arguments with friends and family about how it's not a movie to watch around Christmas. As far as I'm concerned, this argument is now settled.

I watched this movie on AMC when I was maybe 12 or 13 and it kind of actually scared the shit out of me. It's one of those movies where it's gimmick only works once though. I've tried to watch it a few times since but at least for me the scares aren't there anymore.

Funny you should mention Joe Dante in this episode. In 1968 Dante put together a seven and a half hour compilation of segments of films, commercials, trailers, etc. It was called THE MOVIE ORGY. I attended a screening in the Student Union Ballroom at the University of Nebraska in 1970. This version featured THE TINGLER as well as COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL and many others intercut in what today might be called a mash-up. This was the greatest movie experience in my life. It was also the first time I experienced the effects of marijuana. Check it out!

I saw this movie back in high school, and the part I remember best is when the Tingler is being pulled along the floor, flips over onto its back, but is still pulled along while sliding upside down. Surprisingly they didn't mention that, so I'm starting to worry if I made that whole thing up. I sure hope not.

Deaf and dumb simply meant she couldn't hear or speak. Dumb was originally a common term for silent or mute. It was not meant to be offensive, merely descriptive, but has since evolved such connotations as dumb later also came to mean stupid or incapable of learning (now the most common use in modern English).

6:15 That sounds like the theme to Vertigo (1958), which came out just the year before The Tingler (1959). I wonder how much William Castle was influenced by Alfred Hitchcock, especially since Hitchcock would also come out to introduce his suspense films during his specials.
@RLucas3000

It shows what a good idea man Castle was that he incorporated bright red blood into a black and white movie, and shows what a bad director he is that he showed the red water running into the sink first, instead of the tub full of blood first.

Great movie, The Tingler, with the always reliable Vincent Price in the lead. By the way, what do you think of the "nordic noir" trend , that has been going on for some time? Examples would be films like The Snowman (2017) and The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018), but to me they are both borderline turkeys. If you have seen them, what did you think?
