1) These tiny forests makes cities more livable and attractive 2) They help to mitigate urban heat 3) They helps to control storm water runoff 4) They increase bio diversity in urban areas 5) They make urban living more attractive. Contrary to popular belief, urban living is more sustainable due to the efficient land use. In other words lots of people live in a small area. Without cities there will be no forests.

Wonderful initiative... this should sure create little islands of biodiversity and hope. In India we have a tradition of Sacred Grovers, they may be called different names in different parts of the country like Deva Kodavu, Dev Van. Typically each one them will have a small shrine as the protector of the forest and cutting these forets is prohibited. Each of these tiny forest will grow and create hubs of biodiversity, insects, birds etc.

We don't have this problem where I live, our battle is keeping tree and other plant life under control so it doesn't take over. It's problematic and can be expensive. I just keep the couple acres right around my house, garden and animals and let the rest go to nature. I've got land that belongs to me I've never stepped foot upon, but my dogs have, they're fearless. It's on the other side of the swamp and the swamp has water moccasins in it; the swamp is also full of crawfish and big bullfrogs. There's natural gas on it too, it burns up out of the swamp occasionally. I love my land lol. I have native paw paw fruit trees, which naturally grow by the hickory trees, wild muscadine grape vines, mayhaws and native pecans and even a black walnut tree. Theres 3 kinds of oak, pine, cedar, hickory, silver maple, cypress, willow, sycamore and other trees all mixed together. I've owned it for about 10 years and it hadn't been lived on for about 60 before that. I've always thought city folks were missing out on the wonders and life of a forest. These are good programs. Schools generally have more land than is used so they should take a bit of it and create these to teach kids. It's a good use of any extra public land that taxpayers pay for. It's certainly a better way to spend tax money than funding wars. Food forests would be ideal in urban settings. You get the best of both worlds.

Something tells me you're in the American South and you're battling sumac?
How about using trees and under growth with things that produce food that the people can use!

What trees and shrubs are used?
@beeldenstormer2 жыл бұрын
The native species that fit local conditions. In this case species like hornbeam, birch, hawthorn, oak.

Great question it depends on local ecology and some fossil record evidence in some cases (like iceland which is down from 40% forested to 2% so they are missing a ton of extinct native species and are importing them)

Use English properly, you cannot have a tiny forest, by definition a forest is a large area of woodland.

If foxes werent being displaced they wouldnt be coming into tiny forests

should be fruit bearing, native specie
@beeldenstormer2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately we don't have a lot of native fruit bearing trees. We do plant rasperries, brambush, blackberry and blueberry plants. And hazelnuts.
