Let's deal with issues realistically and knowledgeably. The tithes are not for the Pastors of any properly governed Church. The tithes is for the over all management and administration of the church. Most properly governed churches have governed by boards who see to the judicious disbursement of money etc that comes to the church. Part of the tithes is used to ay the salaries of the Pastors. The Pastor of a properly organised church doesn't take the tithes and offerings by himself.

In the days of the Lord Jesus on earth, He was living among the Jews and His ministry was among the Jews. They paid tithe in His time and He addressed the issues that were ignored by even serious tithers in Matthew 23:23-24. He never advised them to abolish tithing but asked them to combine the two. He said "‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:23‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices-mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law-justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former...." Jesus actually by this, was telling them to do both i.e. practice the latter without neglecting the former. Adom Kyei Dua mentioned same. Biblically the tithes were paid for the upkeep of the Priesthood and offerings for the upkeep of the church. Abraham paid tithe to Melchizedek in Genesis 14:18-21. This King/Priest was not a Levite nor a Jew because even Jacob the father of Levi was not yet born. Tithes are covenants that people do with their God by taking care of the needs of the dedicated priests. And please let's note that successful men of God like the Archbishop has big businesses that supports his upkeep and that of the ministry. In today's ministry, no man of God can completely rely on tithes. And let's stop arguing about matters of covenant and do as we believe. Tithers will always have their testimony of how the devourer has been stopped severely by the covenant of tithe as promised in Malachi 3. Tithe does not mean getting more money but protecting your harvest to get more from the current harvest and flourish well in the future. The devourer scatters your current and causes you to have less for the future. God bless you for reading

The word of God is always a two-edged sword. That is why Matthew 23:23 asked for a balance. Why didn't Jesus tell them to only focus on mercy and others. Until we come to a balance of doctrine and we work out efforts to study and understand scripture through divine encounters, we will run after every wind of doctrine and in the end we will look back and say we regret. People died in the process of making scripture available in everyday language and yet we sleep on it and wait for people to put a spin on a scripture and we all jump after it. We shall prosper in our walk with God only when we make time to take His word seriously and seek true direction in His Word and meditate on it
