Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit kzbin.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

For all of the comments saying this is just a complicated drop shot, or no different than a Texas Rigged bait....I think the point is that your bait isn't digging so far in to the mud, it is adjustable with weight and length, and can work the bait a few inches higher. As far as the fish being bothered by the "extra tackle", just look at a spinner bait. If ever there was a fish catching machine that looks like nothing natural...I like the concept of the bait being off the bottom a few inches, and it didn't seem to catch much grass or snags.

It's legit David. We had our best smallmouth action of the year on the setup in mid-Oct. We may even drop the video even though it's not timely -- just to go over the details on what we were doing application-wise, and how the setup was perfect for the situation.

Amazing action. After seeing another video on the Tokyo Rig I decided to make my own. I already had the hooks, barrel swivels, paper clips and bullet weights. Cost $.99 for a 10 pack of split rings. I’ve not fished it yet, but I’m excited to try it.
@Wired2Fish5 жыл бұрын
Very cool D, the applications really are endless. The setup is believed to have originated in Japan, certainly a play off the drop shot but much more effective with heavier tackle applications. Good luck with your experimentation.
@1979coyote5 жыл бұрын
That’s great in theory but what happens when it gets jammed in between 2 rocks? That extra weight is more of a problem than a help.
@Wired2Fish5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, the rock deal is situation dependent like pretty much every other bait. I will say that we've been very surprised by how well the Tokyo setup comes through rock/boulders on a steady retrieve (fished just like a swinging jig). We'll have a video publishing soon using the setup with a 1-1/4 ounce tungsten weight through a deep boulder field with very little snagging. There's no way we could've fish a small swimbait at that depth with a swinging jig and have kept it on the bottom.

yeah this is basically a improve "drop shot". but if the sinker gets lodge in a rock I think you'll probably lose both sinker and hook because that looks pretty sturdy. as for a 'drop shot" most of the time its just the sinker that's gonna go. so... eh idk. on a boat the "Tokyo rig" 100% percent better than a "drop shot." on land & bank "drop shot" seem more affordable because you'll probably lose a lot of these. I love how after all this time we can still make new semi-original lure that blows people's mind. that's why we love fishing.

@onfootbassin5 жыл бұрын
It looks the EXACT same as when punching a texas rigged beaver or craw. I swear this is a ploy to convince people to buy more tackle. Btw, when you punch thick stuff, that fast fall and hop up is what draws a reaction strike. They don't look at the bait supwr closely. They see a potential meal flash in front of them and they either eat it or they don't!
@mrmisterman9995 жыл бұрын
This rig is good for soft bottom lakes so youre not dragging it through leaves and mud. Keeping it off the bottom is the "point"
@onfootbassin4 жыл бұрын
This looks great for punching as I imagine a better hook up to land ratio because you won't have the weight out in front to blow the bass's mouth open. With that said, it does not in any way appear to present the bait off the bottom enough to make a difference in thick grass. Also when it was rigged on a swimbait, the profile looked awful, like a baitfish with a nutsack hanging from it. Sorry, just how it seems.
@ComeOnPelican915 жыл бұрын

@egomaniac2475 жыл бұрын
@@Wired2Fish I'm not saying it won't catch fish, just saying that you could probably throw a gummy worm out on a texas rig and catch a fish too....or walk the dog with a mcdonalds french fry and catch a fish. I totally get "throwing something they haven't seen before" but let's be honest with ourselves and say that a lot of lures (including their packaging) are designed to catch fish when a handful of lures would accomplish the same thing.

egomaniac247 no issues with u not liking the system. We think it's an overly simple setup but can work similar to, but better than a drop shot with heavier line casting reel applications. Guys in the Cal Delta have been punch shotting for years with like-setups to bust mats while allowing the bait to retain freedom of movement. The dropper wire also keeps the plastic/hook out of the bottom sediment.
