Preemptively dealing with spergy comments. The Minas Anor I reference becoming Minas Morgul is in fact Minas Ithil.

I also see a correlations to artists such as Kay Neilsen and others. Even Arthur Rackham in Tolkeins work even if not directly its part of the collective conscious/sub consciousness and are at least product's of the world of Tolkekns Time.

I don't think the Balin inscription is Elder Futhark. The letters don't seem to match up. The 'R' looking rune is actually an R in both elder and younger futharks.

The aesthetic of Numenor is complicated because while it is clearly based _arctypically_ on Atlantis, _culturally_ speaking we know nothing about the details of "Atlantean society", real or fictional, and so something else had to be used. I think Tolkein took a panopoly of cultural, linguistic and artistic elements from a wide swath of the Near East, and based on the linguistic and naming conventions I think most especially from the Egyptian and Sumerian, and made something that was both familiar and exotic to us.

I don't understand how anyone who likes Tolkien can like the Jackson films, they are dumbed-down video-game adaptations for people with short attention spans.

@@Laotzu.Goldbug It’s a big problem in the recent Hobbit films. The LOTR PJ trilogy is really great, I loved them as a kid. Now I am thinking I need to read the books to get deeper than the spectacle the movies leaned on.
