As a child, I had a LOT of trouble sleeping. Mom was a "night owl". I spent many late nights sitting with Mom watching The Tonight Show. Man...the actual celebrities he had on the show. Absolutely amazing!

Me too! That show (and SNL on the weekends) were me and mom shows, 100%. All through the 1970’s it was a regular thing for us to watch together. Great memories.

So I had a laugh - noticed that the subtitles said "this is epic, man" when Ed said, "This is Ed McMahon" ! :)

Doris Day, what a blessing! And although he wouldn't remember but I met Rex Reed through a friend back in the 70s and he's truly one of the most interesting real humans I have ever had the pleasure to meet. What's so chilling in watching this rerun from 1976 is hearing him describing the atrocities of India then! Well, it may be somewhat better today but not a lot. Anyway I really enjoy these old Tonight Shows they were the best. Thanks! 👍

What an interesting perspective on Japan and India when the US was truly a superpower. 50 years later India is doing much better economically. Japan's seemingly advantageous zero population growth back then looks like a horrible demographic disaster hard to get out of. They don't have enough young people to sustain the old retirees. A country in decline. And here we've lost our way lurching towards a civil war in an irreconcilable societal schism. The center doesn't hold.

Every new mouth to feed is born with a brain to figure out how to do it. The inherent problem with socialism is that it creates these Orwellian police states and Dark Age theocracies to preserve a predictable orderly social stability that discourages people from thinking for themselves which cripples scientific and technological progress necessary for economic growth,

@@tdunph4250 While we're on the subject... Rex did the unthinkable. He spoke the truth about Frank's 1974 Madison Square Garden concert; Frank was hoarse, fat, dressed like a frump, and didn't GAF about his gushing audience, many of them middle-aged women "who should be home making meatloaf." I read the review when it came out; that's how old I am. What a kerfuffle! Now, if Frank was ever going to have somebody offed, it would have been Rex, but he's still around, 84.
