Mel is the sole reason I became navy diver certified back in 86 His story, trials and tribulations are the primary inspiration for me becoming a diver. Rest in peace, Mel. Today's the day.

Great show, Johnny was clearly fascinated by all the treasure, Mel was very personable, what a gentleman, and funny too. The state of Florida and the Feds can put it where the sun doesn't shine.

The wife and I were just down in Key West this past weekend and stopped in at Mel Fisher's museum. Possibly one of the most amazing sights I've ever seen. A must for any diver to go and see.

For all the heartbreak in life its nice to see a feel good moment I havent done homework but i think Mel lost a son and daughter in law so there was a price to pay ,Lets not forget the untold horrors of the history surrounding this treasure long before Europeans involved

Yes, Mel lost his oldest son and two others when a tug they were on over-turned. They were the only one's that could not escape the over-turned boat. Thirteen others were thrown over-board and were rescued. Dirk Fisher, 21 year old, his wife, Angel, who celebrated her 25th birthday Saturday before, and Rick Gage, about 21, a young diver from Jamestown, N.Y.

I visited a traveling exhibition and got to put a chain over 20 ft long around my neck. At the time they said it was worth 750k. It was early back in the 80s. I had always wanted to dive and eventually started at 46 when I moved to Florida.?sadly never have found treasure but have found prehistoric bones and pottery in caves. In open water was diving with a group that found 5 40lb vacuum sealed square bails

I believe now if a treasure is lost for X number of years it becomes finders keepers...I think. That's how it should be. People put in allot of their time, money and effort along with losing lives to find these lost items and they should have full rights to keep them when they find them.
