if FC is so magnificent, why doesn't the industry standardize the colors. seeing/reading and determining depending on the make/model of your monitor is unacceptable.

Brad you are very underrated , extremely high quality video content especially from a planning and execution stand point! I hope KZbin pushes you're content to it's limits ! The content you talk about is extremely useful for any creator out there . I personally use my Ninja V so far so good lol.

So to understand this better. If I am using slog3 on my a7iv. Using monitor+. All I have to do is load the luts on it and just load it? Or do I still need to use zebras as you said in your first video? Or should I use false colors?

my canon r6ii has false color inside, i tried to like the false color but its just not practical for me. i go by what i see, if it looks good its good. in editing you can fix alittle bit overexpose or underexpose. i occasionally use histogram to make sure im in a good range. thats about it. i would keep trying false color out maybe later i would like it.

I’ve been using S-Cinetone and a variable ND filter in the outdoors, and using what looks okay on the monitor. Not very sophisticated. I have zebras on 95 and use those.
@BradGiannini
@BradGiannini Жыл бұрын
Yeah that works a lot of the time, especially for quick setups - the variable ND is clutch

"WIth Log, you always use your LUT to set your exposure." I only have the rec709 Lut on my camera to preview the footage ( not embedded LUT ) , I don't have it on my Sninobi monitor. Is there a difference between: A. Use preview Lut on Shinobi and monitor the film in Slog3 on the LCD B. Use LUT preview on LCD screen which also shows up on the shinobi external monitor I hope I made myself clear. Thanks
@BradGiannini
@BradGiannini Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! So I'm not sure which camera you have but many of those "preview" LUTs don't change any exposure settings, they're just for your eye to get a gauge. So you can make mistakes setting specific values if you're doing it that way in camera. As for the preview LUTs on Shinobi, that should probably work to help set exposure. Most monitors come with standard Rec.709 profiles. The only problem there is if you're using a different one in your editing software, you'll probably see some discrepancies. So I find it to be best to load the one you're using into your monitor. As for B, I generally disable this feature of sending the camera's preview to the monitor, because again the preview screen from your camera is kind of just an inexact look for your eye. But you should be able to load any LUT onto your Shinobi, have you tried it?
@peterkertesz2861

I am using the FX3. I am going to try and load a LUT on Shinobi. Thanks! @@BradGiannini

i think im going to study this video the next months, Ninja is already on the way.. but my Setup here is not like a normal Lighting Setup. A Dark/Black room with Red LED's and kinda Cyan/Blue on my Head...
@BradGiannini
@BradGiannini 10 ай бұрын
Sounds cool, you might want a normal light in there because it'll accent the colors more

yea in the testshots i used an amaran 300c for the red, an amaran 200xs for the white in front(Key) and an amaran P60c for the cyan/Blue but now atm i use the 200xs in combination with the spotlight se for the background, need to look for another solution for the white Key, ahh and as hair light i use a amaran T2C @@BradGiannini

So far I've been just using a greycard but since my ZV1 has 50 as its lowest zebra, this is quite inaccurate but got me somewhere in the ballpark although not correctly. Insteady going forward, I will apply your advice from the Zebra and Histogram vids to expose for skincolor and balanced setting
@BradGiannini
@BradGiannini Жыл бұрын
Cool - yeah exposing the gray card can be very powerful but isn't always practical. I think once you get an idea of what looks best for your own skin color, knowing those values really speeds up the process!

@@BradGiannini you are certainly right. I am a bit disgruntled though about all the testing that is actually keeping me from advancing in my content production beginner's shoes. I should just accept that I don't get decent looking footage as of yet but just keep trying different approaches for each video instead of getting bogged down by getting a good look to begin with. Instesd just iterate with each video a little bit and maybe after a hundred I am finally down to a decent quality with what I'm working with for now. At video 100 I will upgrade my lighting and at video 200 I will upgrade my camera anyhow. So I should really not get discouraged about picture profile and color grading details but instead just see it as an expimental phase.
@BradGiannini
@BradGiannini Жыл бұрын
@@FelixChamber Yeah I think perhaps that's the key - just try to get a little better each time and maybe write down what did work or what didn't work, slowly honing everything in over time instead of trying to make it all perfect all at once. It's frustrating because it requires patience, but it's probably the best way to learn anything!
