I just finished A Little Life a few days ago and it left me absolutely heartbroken. I know that this book gets a lot of criticism for the topics it chooses to cover, but wow it was so breathtakingly beautiful to me. I loved them both and really enjoyed their growth through the years

It was just so atmospheric it had to make the list! I feel like Jo and Amy are very similar, both ambitious, stubborn and strong-willed and both go on a journey that allows them to go from being more selfish, self-centred children to much more considerate adults - ahhhh such a great book!

Trigger warnings? What nonsense. If a person needs these silly warnings then they shouldn't read. Try a bit of Aldous Huxley. Try his only two biographies "Devils of Loudon" and "Grey Eminence" and, as you lot of poshies say..."educate yourself". BTW Huxley considered himself a second or third rate writer and Shakespeare as first rate. Oh and you couldn't get much posher and civil and sweet and educated and brave as the lovely old sod.....Trigger warnings? Huxley must be turning in his grave.
@ciarascorner2 жыл бұрын
Calm down Ken. Just like blurbs, trigger warnings give people a bit of an idea of what to expect from a book - it’s just a bit of helpful info that can allow someone to decide if a book is for them or not - if you don’t need them, don’t use them, simple. I mentioned them with A Little Life in particular because of the severity of some of the topics discussed in the novel. Unsure what’s qualified you as an Aldous Huxley expert but I doubt he’d feel as strongly about trigger warnings as you seem to. Finally, not sure what “poshness” has to do with this discussion but for the record, I’m definitely not posh.
