I just recently read this post by a youtuber named D001 and it's a rumor that Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken was supposed to be a 65 million dollar budget movie on peacock but due to test screenings being so positive, the movie was instead moved to a theatrical release. Also in a different post by the same youtuber, Universal knew the movie wasn't gonna be a hit and they just put it out on the summer, which is sort of the explanation as to why the marketing was bad.
